My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

4/26/17 - Update on Hobo

He's very affectionate, playful, and very good about house-training, even when I can't immediately take him out. We were told that he was high energy, but actually, he seems pretty lazy whenever no one is actively playing with him. He was reluctant to go into his crate at night, but now goes in voluntarily (although once he settles into the couch, he'll need to be picked up or pushed off before he will go - he goes totally limp when he's comfortable, and does not care if you're trying to move him).

He was extremely difficult to walk when he first got here. He walked best on a harness and a very short leash, but is very strong and by the time we got home, my feet and back would ache from the effort to keep him under control. I started leash training with him and he improved a lot, but then seemed to regress in the next few days and I started limiting his walks to nighttime when there was less activity outside. When dogs or new people are around, he drops everything (even going potty, which is frustrating because we live on a busy street) and tries to get to them and jump up on them. He gets most excited about kids and would run so hard as to pull me forward and leap up at the end of the leash (so he was walking on two legs). What I finally found was the solution to getting him to walk at my side was a headcollar. I followed the instructions (mostly) on the DVD that came with it and he willingly puts his nose through the loop - if he needs to go potty and doesn't just want to go outside to see people. He is still very easily distracted by people/dogs and new smells, but much easier to redirect. At night and with a headcollar, he walks beautifully on a loose leash with few corrections.

3/21/17 - From Hobo's foster home
Hobo is pretty much housebroken and will go to the door and sit when he needs to go out. He is great with other dogs but when we take him to the dog park he is more interested in the people. He is a sweet dog and loves to give kisses!

He is young and definitely needs some training but with an assertive and loving hand will be a really good dog!

2/6/17 - Meet Hobo!

Hobo is Mr. Personality Plus! He is a super sweet boy, good with other dogs, and people, and rides in a car like a boss! Hobo showed up an inner city high school one Wednesday morning, loving all the attention he was getting, and ready to go to class. A few slices of McDonald’s bacon later, he was in one of the teachers’ car and on his way to a safe haven. Efforts to find Hobo’s owner were unsuccessful. Hobo is eager to please and a quick learner. (Just imagine what he’d have been like after a few days of class if he had managed to get into school!) Hobo is high energy and ready to play and run. He loves to curl up on his bed after wearing himself out. Hobo will be an amazing, loyal, and adoring companion to whoever is lucky enough to adopt him.

Hobo is about 1 year old and weighs about 50 pounds
