My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Rocky: ~10 year old neutered male chocolate Lab, ~ 78 pounds

Somehow this wonderful senior dog ended up in the shelter as a stray, and no one came to claim him. Their loss will be come other family’s gain, as this older gentleman is the sweetest fellow ever. The family who adopts Rocky will be lucky indeed! We can’t understand why his family isn’t banging down doors to find him!

Rocky did well in his dog to dog eval at the shelter, and the evaluator told us that he’s very tolerant towards other dogs, even if they are pushy. He just moves on!

What Dog’s Rescue Rep says:

When I went to meet Rocky (not his original name) I was expected this old geezer dog with no energy. Well that is definitely NOT Rocky! Yes he’s an older boy, but he has good energy for his age. He’s a big boy, almost 80 pounds, but it’s not fat, its just big dog! His paws are huge, and they look like he is wearing white socks. He also has white on his face, which just makes him look even more distinguished. And he’s strong! He’s very sweet, and very easygoing. He seems to be a family dog; when I took him from the shelter to his foster home, he was immediately drawn to the foster’s two granddaughters.

Like many Labs his age Rocky has his share of lumps and bumps. We took him to the vet for a senior checkup and the vet says they are likely fatty tumors, something not uncommon in Labs, and anything to be concerned about. He also has a lick granuloma, which is easy to treat, but which can be an indicator of some underlying arthritis. Again, this is not unusual in an older dog, and doesn’t impact his quality of life or his ability to be a wonderful family dog.

Rocky knows will sit for a treat, and he walks pretty well on a leash, although he pulls a bit (most likely because he is so eager for a walk! He will bring the leash to you in his mouth; it’s the cutest thing. He’s wonderful around people: the old, the young and the in between. This is a dog that can hang out with the ladies while they play bridge, and hang out with your kids helping with their homework!

The ideal home for Rocky is one where he gets the moderate amount of exercise he needs to stay fit, and has plenty of time to hang around with him. He’s a wonderful companion dog, great with kids, and just wants to be where you are. We think he may have been a family/companion dog in the past and that’s what we want for him now. Rocky would be a great companion for a retired person or couple or a family.

Rocky is neutered, current on vaccinations, heartworm free and on preventive, and micro-chipped. Rocky is located in Saratoga.

If you would like to take this distinguished gentleman into your family, call Rescue Rep Debbi 408-613-2044 or email dragonflydebbi@gmail.com.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
