Here's what the humans have to say about me:
The very first thing that Kai the scruffy Terrier mix wants to make clear is that he's a love and very handsome. In this photo, you're not aware of the striking golden and beige colors that run through his beautiful coat - with grooming, care and great nutrition, Kai's coat will show its gorgeous colors and be cottony-soft and shining.
So many things are new to Kai...his adorable little nose sniffs at an outstretched hand...and then an ear to ear smile if it's a kind touch. But watch out..puppy energy may call and Kai is off for exploration and fun. At day's end Kai is overjoyed in your lap or next to you on the couch. He's so happy there because his human relationships are so important to him.
We have to remember that Kai comes from a very tough and sad high-kill shelter...we'd love a new family to give him tons of hugs and loving to make his transition into their home easier. Once this sweet boy is assured that all is well, he'll snuggle close. Kai, at just 5 months old and 10 lbs truly lights up when he feels like he's done a good job... some serious hugging and kind words will send him over the moon.
Kai is such a people dog...he loves kids, but they definitely must be very gentle and handle him kindly. We envision Kai with active, dog-loving retirees.. or a family with older kids who are so excited to have an adorable and sweet dog as a family member and best companion. Kai would be so excited to spend his days in the company of his forever family.
Being a Terrier, Kai loves physical exercise as well as mental stimulation. He would be a natural in positive reinforcement group obedience classes. He would love the challenge and is so smart and wanting to please that he would excel. Kai would also be overjoyed to take long walks through neighborhoods and along paths..enjoying the Colorado sunshine and time spent socializing with his people. Kai can have a moment of insecurity during his transition into a new home. This is from the turmoil that has recently been in his life...a guardian who is present and full of good intention can readily get this great guy past these feelings and let him know he is loved and won't be abandoned. Before you know it, Kai's silly and sweet nature takes over and he's ready for some fun play and belly rubs.
Kai is a non-shedding guy (or lightly shedding..we're not quite sure yet) and will therefore require a commitment to periodic grooming and great nutrition to keep his coat healthy, cottony-soft and matt-free.
