My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kicks! Kicks is a 1 year old, 5lb chi who spent 3 months tied to a table as his owner was dying in a hospital and a friend was coming by to feed. He is still pretty scared and will need socialization and lots of TLC but in the right home we know he will thrive.
From his foster mom:
Kicks represents all that is wonderful and can be challenging about Chihuahuas. We see in him a VERY SMART little dog, that truly is human focused but overcome right now by a lot of fear. He is currently being fostered in a house with dogs and young children and is not reactive in any negative way to the pet of a child or even when the other dogs growl at him. He walks beautifully on a leash and is working on housebreaking. Also did we mention he is SUPER DUPER cute?!?! No really. He is insanely adorable. He almost looks like a teeny tiny boxer..but in a 3 lb body. We are smitten with his little face.

And now for the challenges. While he follows his foster family around the house (and so shows he DOES want and love human companionship) he is very scared. We do not think he is an aloof dog or disinterested in humans but he is scared. This means when you try to pick him up, you will be met with a growl and he can snap if you move too fast. He is very sensitive to being touched or pet while held. Cue another growl, even a Chihuahua tantrum of snapping. We know he really is just afraid – he may have some minor vision issues that make that movement scary or he may have a history of being abused or neglected that traumatized him.

We think for someone, Kicks will be an amazing companion. He is fine with children, although he will not likely be a playmate FOR children. With that in mind he could be a great dog for those that have kids over on occasion (like a grandparent or aunt/uncle) but will not likely be a great match as a playmate for kids. He is incredibly sweet around kids though so not a really worry for visiting kids The few times we have seen tag wags have actually be in response to a child.

What to expect.....Kicks will need time. Love. Patience. He will need someone that understands that they will need to earn his trust. He is not a “plug and play” little pet – but he is so deserving. We know deep down (and maybe not even that deep down!!) he is a wonderful little dog that has just had a rough go. He may not be easiest at first but he will be so rewarding. Watching him bloom will be awesome!

He is fairly new to foster care so we will definitely update as we learn more and see how he progresses. At THIS TIME we are recommending only a committed, Chihuahua savvy home for this little Prince. Despite his challenges we know whoever he claims as his human is going to be very special to this little dog and will be mightily rewarded for giving him a chance at love again

**Please note that our dogs may be located in foster homes around NJ and the NYC area. It would be a great help to us if you can pick up your dog from transport, which is centrally located from Northern NJ and NYC, or foster home.**

**PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER IN YOUR INQUIRY** We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them. Please do not submit an inquiry if you are not serious about adopting. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and appreciate you working with us. For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process.

Our adoption fee is $475. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses.

All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where it is kept for a minimum of 2 weeks for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. After the 2 week quarantine time they are spayed/neutered and fully vetted. They are then placed on the website. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested in it, we make arrangements with the waiting foster to pick the animal up from the airport to then meet with the potential adopter. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!
