Amber came to Longmeadow in November 2007. She was one horse of many involved in a neglect case. She had a foal at her side and he has since been adopted. Amber was not healthy and ready for adoption.
Amber has an old minor eye injury. It has healed but left a small cloudy area on her eye. Her veterinarian does not think that it impairs her vision.
Amber is a well mannered mare and gets along well with other horses. She has been evaluated under saddle and she does have some previous training. Our horse trainer has decided to start working with her to improve on her training.
Update 5/2010: LRR''s horse trainer has worked with Amber and fine tuned her training. He feels like she will most likely never be a horse for a beginner or young kids. She is quick to adjust to the rider''s style of riding. So if a person gets nervous and energetic in the saddle, she does as well. She has strong potential as a performance style of horse. She is very athletic, turns sharply on command and responds to her rider.
Updated February 2017: Amber is back at Longmeadow and available for adoption! At no fault of her own, Amber was returned when her young owner left for college and the family has been unable to care for the daughter''s horse.
Height: 14.2 HH
Weight: Amber is currently approved to carry 200 lbs (includes tack and rider).
Adoption fee: $700
