Max is a very big fun-loving guy, who is easily excited and has a lot of energy to burn. Max was brought to us when he was injured, and had to have surgery on his head. Now he's all healed up and in training to learn "good boy" skills. This whirlwind of a pup is still learning the basics of being on a leash and interacting appropriately with new people and other animals, and has so far shown promise and willingness to please. Because of his size, strength and lack of early socializing, this boy will need a home without children. Max needs a home with people who have large breed experience as well as a lot of time they can dedicate to furthering his training. Everyone (human and dog) would benefit greatly to having the guidance of a dog trainer to ensure that everyone is taught the proper way to train and guide him in the right direction. Max has had a difficult time introducing himself to new people, so we do ask that he be viewed by appointment as to get the best introduction possible to this guy. If he is of interest to you come in and talk to a staff member, email us or give us a call, thanks.

About Our Shelter...

See our website at www.spca.bc.ca/Nanaimo for all of our current adoption prices, hours of operation, etc.

The BC SPCA is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for domestic, farm and wild animals in British Columbia. Through its locations and operations across the province the BC SPCA provides emergency medical care and sheltering for more than 37,000 animals each year. The society also conducts more than 4,600 cruelty investigations and provides a wide range of advocacy and education programs for domestic, farm and wild animals through its Provincial Office.

Our mission, vision and charter is at the heart of all we do to rescue, protect and care for animals. It is also the driving force behind our animal welfare and education programs.

Our Charter:

The BC SPCA Charter is the foundation that guides the work we do:

Whereas:

The world is inhabited by many species sharing a common ecosystem of air, earth, and water. We recognize and value our interconnectedness with all animals.

Therefore:

The BC Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is dedicated to protecting and enhancing the quality of life for the animals of the world we share.

We pledge our energies to inspire and mobilize society to create a world in which all animals, who depend on humans for their well-being, experience, as a minimum, five essential freedoms:

1. Freedom from hunger and thirst

2. Freedom from pain, injury, and disease

3. Freedom from distress

4. Freedom from discomfort

5. Freedom to express behaviours that promote well-being.
