My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Madre was named in the shelter. She had recently birthed a litter of puppies. Madre is a 45lbs 4 year-old female Pitbull Terrier. She is spayed, vaccinated and micro-chipped. When we first met Madre, she was emaciated. She has shown signs of food possessive behavior with dogs and must be fed separately. She is not possessive of food with people however, and is learning to sit and wait for her meals. Madre is being fostered with seven other dogs, ranging from 18lbs to 85lbs and she does fine with all of them. Sometimes she can be a little pushy, so her best match could include dogs of similar size that are neither overly dominant nor reactive. Madre knows “Sit” and is working on “Wait.” Madre walks well on leash wearing a Halti head collar which prevents pulling. She is housetrained. Madre prefers to sleep in bed with her person, under the covers, but she will submit to sleeping in her crate after a bit of fuss. She is also crated when left alone. Madre is eager to please, well-behaved and playful, but most of all, she is affectionate. She does not live with children now, but we think she would be fine with children 8 and older. Madre’s foster mom says, she is a sweet little meatball who will make someone a wonderful companion. Madre is Spanish for “mother.” But you don’t need to speak Spanish to adopt Madre, you just need to be fluent in love.
