An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Angel is a lively 9 pound, 2 year old girl who can be very protective and precocious one minute, and gentle and cuddly with you the next. She definitively has an alpha personality; she runs the show, protects you from approaching strangers, and is especially defensive towards other bigger dogs. What Angel needs most is a strong leader who will teach her positive behaviors, and commit to taking her to professional training classes or sessions with a personal trainer to deal with some behavior issues. When she is an only dog or with another small playful dog in the home, she is wonderful! She will curl up in your lap and give you lots of kisses. At night she must be touching you while she sleeps, and you will wake up to the sweetest little face! Lots of good exercise is a must for her, with continued leash training. Angel has become quite playful with soft toys, and now loves to chase after her balls down the halls, and plush animals as big as she is! Her aggressive behavior escalates when her playful brother is present, and her playfulness turns into more of a defensive, controlling behavior. Therefore, it would be best to place her in a home with no other dog, unless that dog is already a strong leader and a very confident dog. Such a personality gives off an energy to Angel that “tells her” that she will NOT be able to take control and be aggressive. The other dog will basically keep Angel’s negative behavior in check.

Her house training is excellent when following a set routine for going outside. Currently she goes out faithfully in the morning on her early morning walk, at lunch on her noon walk, at 5 p.m. for her after dinner walk, and finally at 8 p.m. for her before bed walk. Angel will not do well being kenneled since she has never been kenneled in her life, so her adopters must be okay with her having free reign of the house. She needs to be in a home where she is not left alone all day and where she can have vigorous activity every day. If her owner works outside the home, they must be able to come home for lunch, so she can get outside and get some exercise. She is a healthy and happy Angel!

Angel is spayed, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. Her adoption fee is $370.00 plus $26.92 sales tax for a total of $396.92. Her foster mom would like her adopters to live within 45 miles of Bloomington, MN and be willing to attend the Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion the third Saturday in September each year.

To meet Angel, please complete an adoption application. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Minnetonka Petco near Ridgedale the first Saturday of every month.

About Our Rescue Group...

Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota (STRMN) is an all volunteer organization with a mission to Rescue, Rehabilitate, and Re-Home Shih Tzus and Shih Tzu mixes who are in need of loving homes. Our Adoption Process...

The first part of the adoption process is to submit an APPLICATION FOR ADOPTION online at www.shihtzurescuemn.org.

Once you have completed and submitted the application, it will be reviewed by an application committee who will decide if it is an appropriate application for one of our Shih Tzus or for a particular dog in which you are interested.

The application gives us an idea of your living situation, your family, your lifestyle, and what you are really looking for in a companion. As everyone knows, the requirements and expectations for dogs all vary, and like humans, each one has its own character and personality. With regards to dogs, some are mellow and just need a place where they can be a companion to people and relax and live out their lives. Others are more active or like the companionship of another dog. But they all need to be in homes where they are understood and loved unconditionally.

After reviewing the adoption application, an adoption coordinator will call for a phone interview to chat further about the dog and you. Upon completion of the phone interview we check your references to make sure that you are, in fact, who you represent yourself to be as both a person and prospective dog parent.

The next step is to verify your living situation. Once again, all dogs have different requirements, an example being that some dogs really need to go to homes where a fenced yard is available, whereas others are fine without a fenced yard. We also need to make sure that you are the owner of the home that you reside in, and if you are not, then we need to get consent from your landlord that the dog you are looking to adopt will be allowed in your home.

Finally, we will do a visit to your home, where all family members must be present, and you will get to meet the dog you are considering. Hopefully the visit will tell us that this is the match we hope it will be! At that point, if it is true love, then you may welcome your fantastic new Shih Tzu into your home for the beginning of what we are certain will be a wonderful, loving forever relationship. Please understand that it is the decision of the foster parent as to whether the family, home and dog are an appropriate match.

We require that you sign our adoption agreement and pay the adoption fee for the dog. All dogs adopted from us are fully vetted (vaccinated, heartworm tested, dewormed (if necessary), and spayed/neutered). The adoption fee is based on the age of the dog and ranges from $100 to $400.
