Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Asahi is a 4-year-old, black and tan, male Shiba Inu who weighs about 16lbs. He was born to a back yard breeder and when he didn’t get along with his Shiba father he was placed in another home with children. When their training methods didn’t work he ended up in DCSIR foster care. Since coming into rescue Asahi is thriving! Asahi plays well with other dogs off leash in small play groups, but we think he will do best as an only pet. Asahi loves people that have gained his trust and allows body handling and cuddling from them. Asahi can be shy or nervous around strangers so it is best to advocate for him and ask people give him space despite how incredibly adorable he appears!
Asahi has a good amount of energy and has been able to complete 3-mile runs with his foster dad. Asahi LOVES to play fetch and loves it even more if the fetch toy is a squeaky toy! His foster family says that Asahi listens well and is easy to redirect. He can be nervous about strangers approaching on evening walks and he may bark at them. His fosters also note that Asahi can jump real high and may be able to jump over low gates.
DOB: 1/19/13 Location: Extended (SC/NC/VA/DC/MD/DE/WV/NJ/NY/PA) Dogs: No Cats: No Kids: No
Asahi may require a training contract upon adoption.
