History- A litter of puppies were dumped close by a rural shelter. The employees picked them up and once their stray hold was over they quickly got chosen for rescue out of state. Unfortunately, when they went to get their health certificates they had parvo. They had to be hospitalized and the rescue backed out of accepting them. The transporters raised the money to get them through it though and once they were well they started looking for another rescue to accept them. We said we would. They blossomed in the care of their foster mom however due to being sick for so long their socialization skills were compromised. They were fearful of strangers. They adjust and bond but we have found he and Piquin are one person dogs. They bond to one person and totally just love that one person and will protect them. They are excellent guard dogs once they bond-- as they love their person/family so much however again they are one or two people dogs and are very standoffish with strangers. Due to this behavior we will not be placing them in families with children-- they just aren't very good with small children at all.

Temperament- Initially- Very standoffish, shy, and weary. Piquin would not do good in a busy home with a lot of visitors.  Once she gets to know and trust you though she is a high energy clown who loves to learn and loves attention.  Once she has bonded she is very sweet, playful, and happy -- a velcro dog that would follow her loved one anywhere.

Energy Level- Higher level energy- loves to play wrestle with the other dogs (she is with Jacques, Taffy, and Czr). They wrestle and play tug and chase and just have fun but she would really love to have her very own person to love and cuddle with-- she is one of those dogs that just stares at you until you love on her.

Dogs/Cats- Good with the other dogs and cats

Housetrained- House trained perfectly using a dog door. There have been no mistakes at all.

This sweet little girl would love a person of her very own to take her biking, or on hikes and runs, but will also love to just cuddle and watch tv.. She loves just hanging out with the person or people she loves.  She is extremely smart and very food motivated-- she will sit and watch you for a cue-- any cue.. She would make a wonderful addition to any adult home wanting a beautiful, smart, playful, loving girl who's love and trust must be earned with yummies.

Adoption fee $150 includes spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations (4 for puppies), deworming, microchip, rabies vacc, collar and tags, training information, and all the support you need.

About Almost Home NM

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a newly formed rescue in Peralta, NM. We are still very small and currently in process of getting our 501c3 tax exempt status. It is mainly just myself, my two daughters and a small group of volunteers. We only take in animals from shelters who are scheduled to be put down. All animals are housed in my home and on my property. We started this rescue due to the simple fact that there are so many wonderful dogs dying everyday at the shelters because there just isn't enough room.We do not discriminate against any breed. Every dog has the potential to be a great family pet, working dog, or therapy dog- just as every dog has the potential to become a "dangerous dog" due to the simple fact that they all (or most anyway) have teeth and can bite when provoked or trained to obey their owners commands.
We do it for the love of the animals and the need to find forever homes for the ones impounded due to no fault of their own.

Our Adoption Process...

If you are interested in adopting from us but have questions please feel free to e-mail me.

In order to start the application process you must send us an e-mail request for an application. We will e-mail it to you as soon as possible. Then just fill it out and send it back via e-mail. Once we receive it then we can schedule an appointment for you to come out and meet the animals.

We are not an open to the public facility with specific hours of operation. We are a foster home and therefore require an application submitted before an appointment can be made and directions given out.

If you would like to adopt from out of state then you must be willing to come out to meet and adopt the pet you are interested in.. We do not ship pets nor will we meet someone somewhere.. We want adopters to come out and spend at least an hour with this pet in their environment before adopting just to ensure there is a connection. We would hate for the adoption to not work and be so far away.
