Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Wendy Sue is a senior beagle, but she does not know it. She thinks she is a pup! She loves playing with toys, and carries them around the house, and yes, even has been caught sneaking them out the doggie door (caught on camera)! She enjoys a game of chase, including the required baying which beagles are known to do, and of course she must sniff around the yard to determine what has come through since her last foray. During quiet times, she is willing to be a lap dog too, and loves her dog bed.
She is absolutely adorable, weighing 23 lbs and measuring 14 inches tall. She has the softest coat and the most beautiful "fan" ears! Her foster mom has so many photos of her that it was difficult to decide which ones to post, so if you want to see more of them, please email us at info@HoustonBeagleRescue.org!
Wendy and a companion beagle were found as strays in a rural area north of Houston. Her buddy was adopted out quickly, but Wendy Sue had some medical issues that needed attention before she could go to a "furever" home. She required surgery for a "cherry eye" and also had a cyst and a wart removed. The vet detected a heart murmur so we took her to a veterinary cardiology specialist, who did a complete work-up on her and found that although the murmur is noisy, it is not serious (we have a complete, written report). Interestingly, unlike many neglected dogs that we rescue, she was already spayed and she tested heartworm negative, to our surprise and glee. She does have a previous injury to her right rear knee, which we had contemplated getting surgically repaired, until we saw her running around the yard like a young pup! The surgical specialty vet advised that we treat her for arthritis rather than to do any cutting on her. The shelter she came from guessed her age as approximately 10 years, but with her energy level and her beautiful coat, we are thinking perhaps more like 7 to 9. However, Wendy is not telling -- and anything is a guess on doggies of "a certain age."
Senior beagles make such great companions. They are loyal, sweet, and well-behaved. They do not get into things nor chew up belongings. They do a lot of sleeping on the dog bed, but they always get up and move to the next room with you, never minding being disturbed from their rest to get some attention, treats, or to go on a walk or a car-ride. Wendy Sue is the ideal best friend for most any household! Her adoption fee is $150.
