My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Yusei is a small (17 pound) one-year-old male sesame Shiba Inu with big round eyes and a straight tail like a fox, who came to DCSIR from a VA shelter. He was not doing well in the shelter. He had a severe foot injury (cut and raw paws) which have been now treated and have fully healed. Yusei is very frightened of strangers. It took several days to gain his trust. He would snap at strangers who tried to handle him too quickly (for his daily walks when he was in his recovery room). Once Yusei was healed, he was introduced to the main living with the other dogs. Yusei doesn't do well with reactive dogs. He has done great with friendly, playful dogs and seniors that don't pester him.

Once Yusei bonds to his humans he loves to cuddle on the couch and fall asleep in their lap. Yusei can guard the couch from other dogs when he is with his people but he has learned to share the couch with his buddies. Yusei eats in the main room with all the other dogs but may need a quiet space to eat or he becomes too scared to eat his food when there is too much going on.

While Yusei has made exceptional progress in his foster home, we cannot stress how important it is that the adopter be educated or willing to become educated in fearful dog body language. We recommend Train Your Best Friend, LLC Jeni Grant online course for fearful dogs http://trainyourbestfriend.com/classes/#online
