My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Meet Kai!

Kai waited at Athens Animal Control all through the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays hoping for someone to adopt him. Being a quiet black dog, it was easy to overlook him at a busy shelter. He had no interest until his foster mom met him in early February.

We believe Kai is a lab/hound mix and he is around a year old. Being so young, he has a lot of energy and absolutely loves to play and go on adventures. Going for a walk, playing fetch with his people, or bounding around with his foster siblings are some of his favorite things. While he loves running around outside, he is the perfect house dog. He's happy to curl up on his bed and chew on a toy or take a nap whenever you decided to have a lazy day.

Kai is very smart and food motivated so he is easy to train. He knows sit, down, shake, and can wait for food and at doors. He is doing well with leash manners, although his hound nose does distract him a bit when he is on a walk. He is also crate trained and potty trained! Because Kai loves food so much, he was a little protective of it when we first pulled him from animal control. His foster mom has done a lot of work with hand feeding him, and he is doing much better, but we would suggest continuing the hand feeding training when he is in his new home.

Kai loves everyone he meets! He lives with two dogs and two cats in his foster home. He does well with cats and LOVES other dogs, so he would prefer to live in a home with a dog sibling to play with. He would also love going to play at the dog park or in a doggie daycare :) We think he'd do well with older children in the home to play with, but may be a little rambunctious for a smaller child and accidentally knock them over.

Come meet this sweet boy today!
