CHARLIE was a stray who was seen with another dog running loose in Kenton in NW TN. A woman was able to catch Charlie and get him to safety in her garage before contacting the rescue for help. Charlie is a Hound mix who is approximately 3 years old and weighs 48 pounds. He has been vetted, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. The staff at the vets said he is the sweetest dog ever! He has some medical issues to overcome and needs to find a family who is willing to meet his special needs. He is currently undergoing the treatment needed to rid him of heartworms and will complete that soon. Charlie is deaf which may be the result of some neurological issues. His foster reports that Charlie is doing brilliantly. He continues to do well with signing and seems to be improving with each passing day. His head bobs have decreased significantly since he first arrived and he appears to be a happy, healthy boy. He responds well to training and treats. He goes up and down stairs with no problem. He goes out and comes in when signaled to do so. At night, he responds to a flashlight turned on and off to signal him to come in from the fenced yard. He knows lay down, no, yes, come here, go upstairs, good boy, and he is grasping eat and drink in signaling. He has made remarkable progress and though he has some neurological issues, his foster would not consider him handicapped. She thinks he is pretty darn amazing and a wonderful companion that thrives on the company of his human. He gets along well with all of the dogs at his foster home. He is very gentle, but would probably do best in a home with an active person or family. He is house trained and crate trained and will go in his crate with a signal and when rewarded with a treat. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Charlie if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer rescue to cover at least part of the cost of the veterinary care this dog has received.
