My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Winni is currently living in a foster home in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. Her fosters call her a "little-big dog" because she can keep with her larger foster brothers and sisters, despite her 25 lb size. She would be a great dog for someone who wants a companion that can do everything a large dog can do, but who doesn't want a huge furry house dog. Winni is athletic, neat and tidy. She is also spunky, playful and intelligent.

Her previous foster mom in Houston describes her as:

My name is Winni! I was a street dog my whole life and was rescued from a high kill shelter in Houston, Tx i January of this year. I was so relieved when my foster mom brought me home. My first few days in my foster home I slept for days, catching up on all the missed naps from living on the streets and always trying to protect myself. My foster brother taught me all about how to be a dog! Now I love to cuddle with humans, play with squeaky toys, chew on rawhide, go on walks and of course, SNACKS! Snacks are my favorite.

I’ve learned to sit when given a treat and when given my food, I’ve learned I can only be invited to the human bed during the day but must sleep in my own bed at night, and I’ve learned it’s not polite to jump on someone when I’m excited. I’m fully house trained and have never had an accident. I don’t have to be crated while I’m left alone. When my foster parents leave I take a nap on my bed, or play with my toys and patiently wait for them to come back. I walk very well on the leash and have been complimented by how well I behave by other dog owners. I’m very friendly and kind to all types of people and other dogs, but I haven’t met any children yet, but they’re basically little humans, so I bet I will love them! I don’t bark a lot inside the house, but do let out a bark if I hear a loud noise outside. Besides that, I love to relax on the couch and cuddle while watching TV. All I want is to be loved!

Currently -
Winni experienced significant anxiety upon transport to Wisconsin. Which may be because she was just feeling safe and sound in a human home before traveling to Wisconsin. She would thrive in a home where her new family can give her the consistent structure and stability she needs to feel less anxious. She also has energy and needs to have the chance to run and play. She is doing great now in a foster home with many brothers and sisters of all ages and sizes who have let her know that things in Wisconsin are actually pretty awesome! An understanding human family with previous dog experience would be a good fit for her. All she wants to do is be your friend - and everybody's friend! Her current foster is helping her work on things and she would love to have a forever family willing to help with this too.

P.S., I’m terrified of water so baths are hard for me, but my foster mom uses pet wipes whenever I need a little clean up and I love them!
