Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Stella, a 1-2-year-old flat coat retriever mix is a delightful, loving, fun girl of 70 pounds. She has to be part of EVERYthing. And she will ALWAYS be with you wherever you go.
This beautiful girl came to us having been on skid row. And SURPRISE! She turned out to be very pregnant and delivered 10 beautiful puppies the very next week. Obviously a first-time mom, she was fabulous, unless we were doing something more fun than nursing puppies. She had been outside her entire short life, never having been house trained and not having any training. She had no knowledge of toys or balls and approached them indifferently.
She was just waiting to blossom and she has! She is now house trained. She has learned some commands. She discovered toys and has her favorites and will even jump in with her puppies just to steal their toys. She throws the toys up in the air and chases after them. And what a ball retriever she has become! She will go long for a Chuck-it thrown ball and will search for balls that end up in obscure places and bring them back. She also enjoys bouncing balls in the house and chasing after them.
And she has some other talents. She can catch treats from a distance. And when she is super happy or excited, she jumps up in the air and spins herself around.
At first, she was a bit snarky towards her foster brothers, understandably having the puppies to protect. Now they get along well except when Stella thinks that her foster brother Ollie is being too crazy. Then the big sister in her comes out and she puts him in his place.
She is not a bolter, as she just wants to be with her humans. She comes when called. She walks nicely on a leash, but needs a little work to refine her gait and to do a heel. And she is terrific with off-leash property walks, staying with us the entire time.
She would probably do well with kitties, as she has not shown any prey instinct, despite her foster bros' coaching. She is very good and gentle around children.
What does Stella love? Being brushed, outings, cheese pieces, a can of tuna, and LOVE, LOVE, LOVE.
She will be spayed soon and will be ready to go to her forever home.
Please note: Stella would not be good for people with walking difficulties, as she is underfoot a lot.
