My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Hi, my name is Gracie. I am only about 6 months old and weigh about 11 pounds. My foster parents think that I am a dachshund/Chihuahua mix. When I was only about seven weeks old my sister and I were pulled from a local shelter. Because my foster mom said that we were both so cute we were adopted out very quickly. Unfortunately, I was returned after only a few months. I don’t know what I did wrong, but my foster mom said that it wasn’t my fault – the family just didn’t have time to exercise and train me and socialize me the way all young pups need. I really missed my sister and wished that I had a friendly furbuddy to play with (one that is tolerant of enthusiastic puppy behavior). My foster parents think that it is important for me to have my very own furbuddy to show me the ropes. Because the family worked long hours, I was left in my crate a lot. I really didn’t like that. But now I am back in a FOR foster home with three other dogs and a cat. I love being with my furbuddy friends. My foster parents are home most of the day so I have the run of the house with the other animals when they are home. I am learning that it is not so bad being in a crate and my foster parents won’t be gone for long periods of time. I do really good in the car and would love to travel with you – I even have my own doggie seat belt. I get to sleep in the bedroom – sometimes on the bed and sometimes on a doggie bed next to the bed. I really like that! My foster mom said that I am really cute and that I will get a lot of attention, but that she was going to make sure that this time I go to a forever home where there is someone around most of the time. Although I am an indoor dog, I really need a safe fenced in area where I have lots of room to run and play – after all, I am still just a puppy. I do like kids, but I would do better in a home with older children who have gentle hands and are respectful of young animals. I tend to jump up and get in young children’s faces because they smell so good. I don’t realize that I can hurt them – I only want to give them kisses and attention. My foster mom said that I am doing good listening, but just like all puppies, I need clear parameters and lots of positive reinforcement to help me remember all the rules. I really am very sweet and I really want to please my people and I love all the positive attention I get when I do something good!! My foster parents promised that they would help me find that perfect home where I will get all the love and attention that I deserve. I really like the sound of that because I was really sad that the other family didn’t want to keep me. But now I am excited about meeting my forever family where I will get an abundance of love, positive training and lots of treats – I really LOVE treats!!! They are my favorite. :)

I am currently being fostered in Huntsville, Al and I have already been spayed, microchipped, received all my puppy shots and am current on flea, parasite and heartworm preventative. If you have the time and love to give and you think I might be a good fit for you, please fill out an application at http://forrescue.net/dog-application/. After my foster mom has received your application, she will contact you to tell you all about me. I am anxiously waiting to meet you!
