Facts about Macey

  • Breed: Husky/Shepherd (Unknown Type) Mix
  • Color: Unknown
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Female

Oh Miss Macey has a story to tell. She found herself wandering the streets of Baltimore and as the story goes, she was struck by a car. Given Macey’s overall demeanor we’re guessing her injuries were actually done at the hands of a human. Macey suffered a pelvic fracture. If that wasn’t bad enough, she was born with bilateral entropians – in short her eyelids grew inside out and needed to be surgically repaired. She had also suffered eye ulcers created by the eyelids. We had a lot of work to do to get Macey better and to earn her trust. Well, what a patient she has been. Macey has now completed her crate rest and her fracture has healed nicely – she will never have a perfect gate but doesn’t walk with a limp and it certainly doesn’t keep her from getting around! Macey’s eyes have also been surgically repaired and the ulcers have fully healed. She now is on eye drops a few times a day and will be seen once more in 6 months by our ophthalmologist for a follow up. Macey is now spayed, current on her vaccines and healthy!  Emotionally she has come so far as well. This girl wouldn’t make eye contact with us for the first week, now she’s a loving member of our pack. Macey tends to attach herself to one person primarily but spreads the love to all humans in the house. She favors women to men and will sometimes bark at a man in uniform. Macey LOVES other dogs and needs to go to a home with other young playful dogs. She lives to play with both her humans and canine friends. Macey is good on a leash and takes redirection very easily. She’s very obedient and eager to please. Macey is potty trained and crate trained, although any new adopter should expect a few accidents.
We believe Macey is a German Shepherd/Husky mix. The vet says she’s 1-2 but we’re leaning more to 1 years old. She has the classic features of a GSD including ears, head shape, coloration and tail and classing Husky features such as eyes (she is bi-eyed), snow nose, paws and coat. Macey’s temperament is more of a GSD but she woo-woos like a Husky in a Shep voice! It’s adorable. True to the Husky breed she is a finicky eater and still needs to gain some weight. She currently weighs 45 lbs but should be closer to 55-60lbs. She currently eats a combination of Natural Balance dry and canned food three times a day and has put on several lbs since being in our care. Macey loves to run and it will be required to have a fenced yard for her. She also has a touch of separation anxiety and will bark in her crate when you first leave her. Although she settles down quickly, she’s used to having humans around most hours and we would like to see her go to a home where she won’t be left for long periods of time without human companionship. Macey is very affectionate and will sometimes still paw and mouth while playing, so a home with older kids would be best. She LOVES kids and adores the 12 year old in her foster home.
What else can we tell you? Macey is a super star and needs a very special home because she’s so deserving. Above all else, Macey needs a home who will love her endlessly and embrace her silly, happy personality.

On requirement is that an approved adopter must be willing to come to MD to meet her, as that is where she is being fostered.
