My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

CHOPPER is a 2 year old neutered chocolate male Lab who weighs 65 pounds. Chopper is a big, strong and happy dog who thinks everyone he meets is his friend and wants to play with him. He thinks he is still lap size and likes to climb up and sit in your lap and get attention. He loves to retrieve brings it back most of the time. Takes treats gently He needs a family that will give him plenty of exercise and has a fenced yard for him to run and play in as walks will not be enough for him. Some family is going to luck out when they adopt Chopper. Kids 6 and up lived with 3 kids ages 5-11 in original home, only problem he would knock over smallest boy when playing. Good with other dogs and good with small dogs. Knows sit, down (sometimes) and come. Okay on lead better with an Easy Walk Harness. Crate and house trained. Chopper was a stray to the shelter. His original owner got him from a breeder as a puppy and gave him up about 6 months ago as she had to go back to work full time he she didn't have the time or energy with 3 kids to give him the exercises he needed. His new owner works away from home and Chopper has been a frequent visitor to the shelter (on first name basis). This time neither owner nor his roommate came to get him. Their loss! He is approved for kids 6+. More info soon!

Adopters must meet these requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home
Fencing: Needs fence either physical or underground.

This dog is from a rural area and has not been exposed to traffic, noise, or groups of people. If dogs are overwhelmed by their environment, they can exhibit behaviors like excessive barking. To avoid this, for now we are limiting placement to stand alone single family homes in a suburban neighborhood or rural area. As we learn more from the dog's time spent in foster, we will evaluate if placement can be expanded to include a more urban environment and send out an update.

This dog is available for adoption from Lab Rescue LRCP. Lab Rescue LRCP rescues and places dogs in Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and northeast North Carolina (30 miles east of I-95 and north of the Pamlico Sound) Adopters must travel to Maryland, Virginia or Washington DC with their family - human and canine - to meet the dog they want to adopt.

Lab Rescue LRCP has between 50 - 80 dogs available for adoption from foster homes across Maryland and Virginia and at monthly adoption events. The adoption event dates are listed at www.lab-rescue.org.

If you are interested in adopting, please visit www.lab-rescue.org and complete an adoption application. Within a few days of submitting an application you will hear from an Adoption Coordinator who will guide you through the adoption process.

An adoption fee is charged to cover the cost of veterinary care and a home visit is required.
