BOBBY's Story...
Please take the time to read all information provided as it could answer some questions you may have.

BOBBY was saved from Texas where most shelters have to kill dogs for space after just 3 days. He is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in other states and Canada where our dogs get adopted.

BOBBY is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heartworm & tick-disease tested (Snap 4dx) negative and micro-chipped. He weighs around 30 pounds and has an estimated date of birth of August 2015. We do know what breed-mix BOBBY truly is, but with him having the longer body, we presume he is a Basset Hound mix.

BOBBY is very agile and easily jumps up on-top of counter-tops or over half-cut doors (stable-door type). He absolutely loves to chase around the garden and for his size he is busting with energy. He is curious and likes to check things out and can easily jump up on the counter if there is something there to interest him. He is learning the word "NO" and is very responsive. He uses the dogs doors to come in and out to play and do his business. I do not know if he would know to tell you he needs to go out, but I don't think it would take him long to learn at all.

He is very affectionate and will jump up and sit on my knee or beside me on the sofa and get his belly rubs and ear scratched, once he has expelled his energy he is a calm boy who is happy to entertain himself on the toys. He is great with other dogs of all sizes, ranging from 8 pound chi's to 95 pound German Shepherd Dogs. He is a lot of fun and would make a great family pet to an active family.

We do not have cats at the rescue so cannot comment on how he would act around them.

BOBBY would benefit from an active, fun family that has the time to work with him on his obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both BOBBY and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed.

We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!

BOBBY is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of $500. This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

BOBBY is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

BOBBY, a Albany Basset Hound dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Basset Hound for sale in Albany, or seeking a Basset Hound dog from a breeder in Albany.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Albany already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Albany breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Basset Hound breeders who help with Basset Hound rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Albany paves the way for another one to be saved.
