Bowie is a 8ish male golden retriever.
Bowie is a sweet and gentle guy that has potential to be an amazing companion. When he first arrived at his foster home, he was very skittish and afraid to go outside. He did not like noises and would run and hide frequently. He has been working really hard, slowly learning that going outside is fun but loud noises are still sometimes scary for him. He is getting better with going out and will even occasionally explore the back yard, following his foster brothers around, but there are still times that
he is just too afraid to go out. With some patience, he can come out of his shell and become the golden he was meant to be.

Bowie came to GRFR with a few extra pounds on him. He loves his food, but is getting used to smaller portions and lots of veggies. Green beans are his favorite! Now on a healthy diet, his energy levels are rising, but he does enjoy being a couch potato more than anything. Bowie will need a family willing to continue to work with him and be patient with him.

Bowie seems interested in toys and as he becomes more confident, he is more interested in playing, but is still happiest laying at the feet of his
foster parents getting lots of love. He is house trained and has free roam of the house when we are not home. He will need another large confident dog in the home and a family that is patient, understanding, and willing to continue to work with him and show him how great life can be!

About Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue is a nonprofit, charitable 501(c)(3) all volunteer rescue organization. Our mission is to rescue, foster, rehabilitate and adopt abused, neglected, and unwanted Golden Retrievers to permanent homes. All of our Goldens are currently in foster homes which enables GRFR to better assess the temperament of each Golden for matching to the appropriate permanent home and provides prospective owners the opportunity to visit the Golden in a non-kennel environment.

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our dogs are in foster homes in the Front Range area from Colorado Springs to Fort Collins.
Once an applicant is approved we work directly with the applicant on meeting dogs.
We do have meet and greets that are posted on our website but there are no adoptions from these meet and greets just a great opportunity to meet some wonderful dogs looking for their forever homes.

Our Adoption Process...

The placement fee is $125 for senior dogs age 8 years and older; $250 for dogs 7 months through 7 years, 11 months. Puppies 6 months and under are $300.

The GRFR Adoption Process:

Once we receive your application, we will review it and if approved it will be sent onto our Phone Interview team for the first step of the approval process. If the phone interview goes well, then the application is sent to our Home Visit team for the next step in our approval process. After the home visit, the volunteer performing the visit sends a report to the Adoption Approval Committee. The committee reviews it along with your application and makes a final approval decision. If you are approved, then our Adoption Coordinator will work to identify Goldens in our program that are appropriate for you.

Before you submit your application, we want you to be aware that we require a sturdy, physical fence for all dogs under the age of 8. Goldens are very social creatures and they need a safe place to exercise. Many homes now have invisible fencing and that does not meet our requirement. Goldens thrive on positive reinforcement and we consider invisible or shock fencing to be a negative training method. We will consider homes without fences for our calmer senior dogs and occasionally for dogs with special needs. If you are interested in one of our wonderful seniors or a special needs dog, please be sure to note that on your application. Please be aware that we have been asked to reconsider our policy on having a fence for young dogs many times, but we feel that maintaining this policy is in our dogs' best interests.

Depending on the specifics of your situation and your desired characteristics in a Golden, it can take from 2 weeks to 4 months after your home visit to adopt one of our Goldens. Sometimes it doesn't take very long to match you with a Golden in our program, but sometimes it can take a longer amount of time. As a rescue, we do not know what type of Golden we will be getting, nor when.

Foster homes are given 3-4 names of potential adopters for their foster dog. They review the application, phone interview notes, and home visit notes. Since the foster home knows their dog the best, they decide which applicant to contact first. Some of our dogs would do better in a home with another dog or the foster home may feel that one certain characteristic is better for their foster dog.

The placement fee for a Golden Retriever is due at the time of placement. The placement fee ranges from $125 to $300.00 which covers the cost of medical treatment (spay/neuter and rabies and parvo/distemper vaccinations, and heartworm check for out of state dogs) and transportation. For puppies who are 6 months of age or younger, the placement fee is $300.00. It is extremely rewarding to have people who are willing to make the last years the best years for our senior dogs. The placement fee for senior dogs age 8 years and older is $125. The placement fee for all other dogs, from 7 months to 7 years, 11 months, is $250.

We appreciate your patience while we do our job of finding you a Golden for your family. We hope you can appreciate we are all volunteers and will work as quickly as possible. We hope you are willing to go through our process, because we need good adoptive homes for our Goldens! Please keep in mind that we are trying to take into consideration the special needs of our rescue Goldens when finding homes for them. If you are not aprroved for adoption, we are not passing judgement on your family, but rather we are just trying to meet the special needs of Goldens that have already been displaced for one reason or another. WE REGRET WE DO NOT HAVE STAFF TO RETURN REPEATED PHONE CALLS TO OUR HOTLINE REQUESTING THE STATUS OF YOUR APPLICATION. WE APPRECIATE YOUR PATIENCE AS WE ARE A 100% VOLUNTEER ORGANIZATION WITH NO PAID STAFF.
