My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Basha: 8-year-old female black Lab 60 lbs

Time for Basha to find a new home as her current human family situation (divorce, downsizing, newborn) has changed and they are no longer able to provide the time and energy to care for her. She is currently relegated to the backyard for all of the day, but comes in at night to sleep on the family couch… and then back outside the next day.
What Basha’s current owner says: Basha is full of energy and very friendly. She is friendly with others dogs (and cats), and she likes to chase other dogs and be chased. She used to go to the dog park to play with other dogs but not recently. Basha does great with our own kids. Our current work-life situation significantly hinders our ability to provide Basha with what she needs. She’s been getting no walks lately and she spends nearly the entire day in our backyard. Basha knows a few commands such as “sit”, “stay”, “down”, “drop”, “leave it”, and “take it”. Basha does have a thing for poodles – not sure why, but she doesn’t seem to like them at all.
What Basha’s Rescue Rep says: Basha’s new family must be committed to providing her lots of walk, exercise, and socialization with other dogs. Her new family will not be leaving her alone either for long periods of time – ain’t gonna happen. Basha would thrive in a home with children and/or with another dog. She is spayed but not yet microchipped. Basha does have an itchy skin condition or allergy that will need care and treatment to resolve – not sure if it her current environment, a food allergy, or some other issue. We will be taking Basha to our vet to be checked out and bring her up to speed on her vaccinations. Basha is located in Newark.

(Please keep in mind we are all volunteers, most of us work full time and we all have personal lives. I do call everyone back within 2-3 days so please be patient and I will be back in touch with you. When the dogs are in foster homes then it may take longer as we need to touch base with the fosters for updates on the dogs. We work very hard to make the right matches for the dogs and for the new owners. We get 3-5 dogs per week and we do not have a facility that we keep the dogs housed in. They are scattered all over the Bay Area.)
