My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

I am an absolute dear! I fall in love hard. I am a heartbreakingly gorgeous 15-pound longhair black and tan 6-year old dachshund boy, and everyone knows that the longhairs are extra-lovey, sensitive dachshund souls. I definitely fit that bill. I love all people and I love all dogs, especially if they will cuddle and play gently with me. My career goal is to be a professional post-shower ankle drier. I have IVDD, a very common inherited condition in dachshunds, and I had back surgery in early March with DREAM. I have learned to walk again with swim therapy and physical therapy. I still enjoy exploring the yard and having silly fun though! I was obviously house trained before i came to DREAM (unlike many doxies) and I am very good about going potty outside. I had a little nerve damage and sometimes do have a poop accident though. I am good with cats after an initial introduction period (during which I will want to play with them more than they want to play with me.) If you want a very sweet companion, I am your guy. I am a dedicated lap dog and a very happy boy. If you are interested in adopting Heath, you can fill out an application right on our website! Go to dreamhappytails.org/adoptform.shtml . Heath 's adoption fee is $350. All adoption fees go directly to veterinary care for DREAM dachshunds. Heath will go to his/her new home microchipped, altered, heartworm tested, and up to date on vaccinations. Most dogs' veterinary expenses are greater than our adoption fees.

DREAM is an all-volunteer rescue group, and we focus on the Atlanta, North Georgia and Savannah area. Because we are all volunteers, we can consider applications only within an hour of these areas. DREAM does not recommend purebred dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a doxie's back.
