My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

BUTCH (M, 1-2 yr, Pit Mix, 60lbs, HW Positive) Butch was found by some young citizens, they kept him over night and carried him to the vet. They could not afford to help Butch out and was advised to carry him to the shelter. Butch has puncture wounds all over him. The swelling in his face was terrible however he looks better. Butch is so sweet and thinks he should be in your lap. His hold is up 2/27/17 and he can be killed any time after that date at the discretion of the shelter staff.

The shelter has started the heartworm positive dogs on ivermectin to help start them on the slow kill method of heartworm treatment. Ivermectin alone does not cure heartworm and does not kill the adult heartworm. Adult heartworm will continue to damage a dog’s organs. Thorough heartworm treatment to cure a dog of the disease consists of diagnostics and a two prong approach to treatment for both the adult or immature heartworm. Veterinary care and supervision is key.
