My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Red, who arrived with the name Dallas, is apparently 7 years old, but his body is more like 9-10 (he’s had a rough life). He came to us as a stray, unclaimed. Full vet check revealed nothing serious; however, we suspect he has arthritis. He still does just fine walking and playing. He will just be slow on the stairs, but can manage fine. For this reason, Red has a reduced adoption fee of $100 (see our note below).

Having said that, the only thing he really can’t have is other dogs that are going to jump on him, and he can’t be crated. He’s not destructive, and has all the manners a good dog should. He enjoys snuggling and is a friendly dog.

His recent fosters renamed him Red, a name that suits him and that he seems to love, so we’re sticking with it. Unfortunately, they discovered that he is noisy when his family is away from home and, since they live in an apartment, they had to let him go.

“This is a wonderful animal who needs comfort and confidence building. He ticks all of the boxes with his sweet personality and old soul and will make a wonderful companion for a lucky person or family. His only issue is that he misses his people when they leave. A detached home is going to be the best thing for him, as he does get noisy when left alone, which is not ideal for apartments or condos. He is best suited to an environment where his family or parent is home frequently, so he would be a good fit for a retiree, perhaps someone who works from home or in an environment where those who live there tend to spend the majority of their time at home.”

**Separation anxiety is something that is trainable and can be worked on. Please do your research, contact friends with experience or a trainer to discuss. Also, you can visit our website, www.rockyroadrescue.com/learn to read about bringing a new dog home and some information about separation anxiety.**

Red needs a home where he will be left alone for no longer than 4 hours or less on average per day. He needs the time and patience to adjust, someone able to work with him or take him with them. He seriously injures himself in a crate, so he’s safer left out in a house, and doesn’t show signs of destructive tendencies. He’s amazing with cats, and shows zero signs of anxiety or stress when his people are home.

**In some cases, we reduce or even waive the adoption fee for specific dogs. The reason these dogs are in this category is because they are either senior, or have medical needs. This means their forever family will need to be emotionally – and financially prepared. We cannot say for certain how long they will be with you, but we can say that these are dogs you won’t regret opening your heart and home to! They are looking for very special and loving people. The adoption fee for Dallas has been reduced to $100.**
