My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

This beauty, Rosie, is ready for her fur-ever family!

Rosie was a "free Collie" on Craigslist in November of 2016.  Bea, one
of our fabulous volunteers in Colorado Springs, began a dialogue with
the owner to help her understand how dangerous this could be for her
dog.  Especially because Rosie was ill.  She had a large mass below
her tail and the owner could not afford to do any diagnostics.  Bea
explained patiently about how rescue works and that we would do
everything possible to make Rosie well and find her a "forever home."

Mountain Shadows Pet Hospital in Colorado Springs is our go-to clinic
in the area and was our first stop for Rosie.  Heartworm negative,
blood chemistries and CBC just fine.  Dr. Wilson aspirated some fluid
from the grapefruit- sized mass but the fluid did not show anything
conclusive.  Next was an exam, x-rays and ultrasound with Dr.
McReynolds of the Southern Colorado Internal Medicine Specialists.
Dr. McReynolds consulted with Dr. Morgan, a board-certified veterinary
surgeon and the conclusion was that Rosie had a mass almost as large
internally as the one we could see.   The surgeon was our best shot at
giving Rosie a future.  The procedure was scheduled and we all held
our breath.

Rosie came through the complex surgery well and then, again, we waited
for the lab report to come back from the pathologists at Colorado
State University.  It was better than any of us could have hoped for.
Rosie did not have cancer!

A dental cleaning, vaccines and a microchip came next for this lucky
dog and after a little recuperation time, Rosie is ready for the thing
she had been promised on that first day in November of 2016.  Rosie is
ready for a forever home.

Rosie, the miracle dog, is a 60#, 8-year-old spayed sable and white
Collie.  She is very sweet- natured and eager to please.  She seems to
be more comfortable with women than men but her foster dad is making
good progress with her and they enjoy their walks together.  She lives
with multiple dogs and enjoys their company and the family cats are
okay too.  Walks are more Rosie's speed than running and she is
beginning to play with toys a bit or at least carry them around.
Older kids would be fine for her but toddlers might be a bit much.

But most of all, Rosie needs love.  The neglect in her previous years
may show in some ways but her Collie heart has not been damaged.  She
yearns to be loved and we have promised that to her.
