My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Do you look at lab puppies and wish they could stay so cuddly and small forever? Looking for a playful but not hyper dog that loves to snuggle?

MEET COCOA!!!

While we think Cocoa is some form of a dachshund mix, we really think he looks like a teeny tiny lab puppy that will never get any bigger! He is slim 15-20 lbs or so - and about 1 years old. We think he is the perfect size for playing in the yard and hanging at your feet as you watch a movie.

Cocoa has tried both city living and the suburbs and we think he likes “the suburban lifestyle”. Cocoa thrives with an outdoor to play in so a quieter part of the city near a park or in a suburban home would work great for him! He loves other dogs (big and small, male and female, of all ages!) so Cocoa will make a great second (or third or fourth dog!) While he is a bit shy he seems to do very well with one person in particular so while he will get along with children just fine - he tends to be more of a one person dog. His one person is his current foster home is a 13 year old girl! He has now learned basic commands (sit, stay, etc.) and is housebroken and leash trained. (Please remember though even 100% housebroken dogs may have an accident or two as they adjust to a new home). He does tend to prefer women over men but is not in any way aggressive with men or children.

He is not food or resource aggressive, and seems to be non-reactive even when some of the other dogs forget THEIR manners. He does not seem to be overly protective and will transfer from one person to the next in terms of touch and holding.
Cocoa is currently being fostered in the Clinton, NJ area with a pack of dogs, a pack of kids, birds, bunnies and seems to love it all!

Want to adopt a FWFP pup? Fill out our online adoption application by visiting our website: http://www.friendswithfourpaws.org/adoption-form.html

**Please note that our dogs may be located in foster homes around NJ and the NYC area. It would be a great help to us if you can pick up your dog from transport, which is centrally located from Northern NJ and NYC, or foster home.**

**PLEASE INCLUDE YOUR PHONE NUMBER IN YOUR INQUIRY** We put a lot of time and energy into processing our adoptions to find our babies the best fit home for them. Please do not submit an inquiry if you are not serious about adopting. We are so excited to work with you to find you a new forever friend, and appreciate you working with us. For immediate consideration, please attach your application to the initial inquiry to help us expedite the process.

Our adoption fee is $475. This includes their spay/neuter surgery, full (age appropriate) vaccinations, microchip insertion and registration, deworming, heartworm testing and prevention, flea and tick prevention and travel expenses.

All of our dogs are rescued from local shelters and the general public. Each dog is then placed in a foster home where it is kept for a minimum of 2 weeks for quarantine, to ensure if the dog gets sick it can receive proper treatment. After the 2 week quarantine time they are spayed/neutered and fully vetted. They are then placed on the website. We have foster homes in the NJ/NY area waiting to receive their fosters. Once an animal has received an application or there's an adopter interested in it, we make arrangements with the waiting foster to pick the animal up from the airport to then meet with the potential adopter. Thank you in advance for your patience with our process and for making adoption YOUR option!
