My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Doug is a sweet, sweet, petite 7 year old male mix who loves pats and scratches. He's
understandably a little excitable in a new situation, but once he settles a bit he's a first-class hugger and kisser. He loves bully sticks and chew toys and has started flinging stuffed toys to entertain himself.

Doug is smart, having learned the dog door in short order, and he's had no accidents in the house. He gets along fine with other dogs and, although he appears to mean them no harm, he thinks it's fun to chase cats. He goes into a crate without a fuss, and is quiet all night in his peoples' bedroom. He's food motivated, and is learning that counter-surfing is not a good thing. He's a little rough on the leash, but he knows how to sit and should quickly learn better manners.

This wonderful fella is a joy to have around is done with his heartworm treatment and ready to find his forever home.

Doug did test positive for Heartworm and has been treated. He'll need to be on a no activity regimen for 30 days post treatment while he recovers and on a low activity regimen for 6 months. Both his treatment and blood test after 6 months are paid for by GRFR at one of our contracted vets. Doug's forever family will need to be sure he takes a monthly heartworm preventative year round. Some people might be leery of a dog like Doug who has had heartworm, but there is no need to be. It is both curable and preventable.
