Tiny Zena was rescued from Visalia City Animal Shelter. Her story is horrible. She was found lying in a field with her hind legs duct taped together and to her stomach. Zena was found in very poor condition, starving, infested with ticks and fleas, and in pain from being unable to escape the duct tape. Unfortunately, no one has been charged with animal cruelty. Zena's wonderful personality indicates to us that she probably had a good home at one time. She may have been stolen or lost when an evil individual found her and tied her up to die. Zena has received a full exam and x-rays from the vet. Her hind legs are bowed (from being tied together), but she has no broken bones. Our vet thinks that Zena will make a full recovery in time and that the awkwardness in her gait is due to atrophy and muscle strain. Zena is sweet, wiggly and friendly with people, despite her terrible experience. She is good with other dogs, best with a large male. No small dogs or cats. Zena is about 3 years old and only 33 lbs. We consider her a 'pocket' boxer.
