My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Kassidy is a poodle mix. She is approx 18 months and 12 lbs. She is a sweet girl, very quiet and well behaved. She seems to be quite well house and leash trained and is doing well in her foster home. We think she looks like a poodle maybe maltese mix but is not hypoallergenic. She is going to be stunning when her coat grows back. She has an old fracture of her (fore limb) ulna and we had her examined by our orthopedic surgeon who felt that as it was old and had already healed and that he did not want to do any surgery. If she is too active, she will occasionally limp so he suggested that she be put on supplements (Dasuquin for instance is $10 per month). She was very matted when we found her and had to be totally shaved down. She also tested positive for heart worms  and has been treated  with the required series of injections and she has also been started on a monthly heartworm preventative.

The total adoption donation of $525 and includes the required interstate health certificate and transport , spay/neuter, shots including rabies, bordatella, parvo, lepto, distemper and canine influenza, and micro chip with a lifetime pre paid registration. The total amount is payable to Shaggy Dog Rescue which is a 501c3. Some of our dogs are still in Texas in foster care. The application is online at http://houstonshaggydogrescue.org/application-process/

Just as a note, if you are in Massachusetts and are adopting directly from Texas rather than from a local foster, there are new quarantine laws in effect. All rescues must be quarantined 48 hours at a state run facility, and in addition, a second interstate health certificate is required to be issued by a Massachusetts vet. This new law may add an additional cost.
