My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

"Howdy, folks. My name's DUKE, and I'm a 10-year-old Shepherd/ Rottweiler mix fellow. My owner is no longer able to take care of me, so I'm hoping a kind person will look into my beautiful brown eyes, see what a good boy I am, and take me to my new forever home. I'm used to a quiet environment, so it has taken me a while to adjust to the hustle and bustle of life here at the shelter. Some of the other dogs are a bit noisy, but I've been pretty quiet and calm in my kennel. I always have a stoic look on my face, even when I'm happy, so people sometimes mistakenly think I'm unfriendly. Not true! I'm a loving guy who gets along nicely with everyone, including other dogs. I do, however, want my new home to be fairly low-key. I'd do best either an adult home or in a family where the kids are older and not rambunctious. At this stage of my life I want to be treated with respect and consideration. I'm a gentleman who knows how to sit on command, plus I've already been house trained. I like it when the staff and volunteers take me out to play or go for walks. I'm a big guy, but I walk very nicely on a leash, and I'd be grateful for a daily walk at my new home. Won't you come visit me here at the El Cajon Animal Shelter? I've got the most beautiful warm and loving eyes that you've got to see for yourself. Please ask the staff to take us out to the play yard. I feel more comfortable there, so you'll have a chance to get to know the real me. You'll be my favorite person if you give me a good long scratch on my back. Love, Duke"
