found on 2nd and hill It would be hard to find a dog to much cuter than Chase! This silly little guy is one happy fellow, even though he does have a congenital issue with his left front leg. He's been examined by a veterinarian who has determined that although his leg looks pretty crazy, it is non-painful. Of course as he gets older, you should expect some arthritic developments here. He does use the leg and gets around quite well. Chase is only about eight months to one year old. He was super shy when he arrived, quite timid and unsure of everyone. He's calmed down a lot, and has become much more social. He was easy to handle during physical exam. He does walk on leash but pulls a bit. He's very food motivated but did not respond to any commands. He does seem to get along with other dogs and loves to play. His play can get fairly intense, so a dog meet would be a must. This guy will need to have a dog friend who is suited to his energy level and will correct him and let him know to stop if the play gets to be too much. He was curious and interested in cats, so caution would be advised. We think that Chase would do best in a home prepared to do some training and handle an energetic young dog who still needs some socialization. His family will also need to be able to deal with any issues down the road arising from his leg deformity. We think the Chase would probably do best in a home with children eight years of age and older. Dogs are generally tested with dogs of their own size; and dog meets with the resident dogs are always encouraged. Our cat test should be used as a general purpose screening only to rule out overt aggression; we always recommend caution when introducing dogs to cats in the home. Recommendation on suitability of placement with children by their ages is based on behavioral observations including energy level and response to body handling. We never recommend leaving young children unsupervised with dogs. Behavior evaluations should be considered as a snapshot of the behavior of the dog at this point in time; JHS believes all dog families need to be prepared to invest time and energy into training as well as provide common sense management of their new dog. Our Adoption Process...

We believe in an open, non-judgmental adoption process. We recognize that no one is perfect and try to match a person's pet expectations so fewer pets are returned. Under normal conditions the process is:

- Come in with your family and look around. If you see a pet that you like, ask staff to meet the pet (if the pet is available to be taken out)
- Complete the adoption questionnaire.
- After the meeting, go over what information we have on file about the pet and his/her past experience.
- Finish the process by having a conversation with our adoption staff.
- After the above is completed, we can put a hold on a pet for 24 hours if you need time to think about the decision or to prepare your home.
- Most of our pets can go home the same day.

Adoption fees are: $90 - $140
This includes the animals spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations including rabies, de-worming and micro-chip.

- We will not adopt a pet to anyone under the age of 18
- We will not adopt to anyone under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- We reserve the right not to place a pet in a home based on the information we have or if we feel the pet is not a match for the person's lifestyle.

JHS does reduce or waive adoption fees for a variety of reasons: Too many cats or kittens in the building, older and special needs pets that have a harder time finding homes, etc. Adoption Promotions are a fun way to engage the public and bring in potential adopters. Shelters remain the #4 way people obtain their pets.
