Hazel is a true grand dame; a dignified 11-year old 50-lb shepherd-terrier mix who is looking for a forever home with a suitable and cozy couch (read: throne) for her to spend her days sprawled across. Hazel loves to see what the world has to offer her, and especially loves to go for rides in her chariot. Hazel can be a little reserved when she meets new people. She seems to warm up a little faster with the ladies, but does come around with the gents as well. Once she is comfortable, she is an affectionate girl who loves cuddles and belly rubs.

Hazel has done well with the children she’s met, happily accepting pets from all. She is good with other dogs and unknown cats (although there’s one cat in her neighborhood that she did express interest in chasing…). Hazel does well on the leash, and adores her walks. A true lady, she is house trained and entirely trustworthy when left unsupervised with free reign of the house. Hazel is food motivated, and is fully aware on the treasure that the refrigerator holds within. Hazel is low energy, and is sated with a daily walk and light romp in the yard.

Hazel is adoptable in the Mid-Atlantic/Southeast (FL, GA, NC, SC, VA, WV). If you’re interested in adopting Hazel, please complete an adoption application at, and then email

About Big Fluffy Dog Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to helping giant breed mixed breed dogs in need. We value dogs of all breeds, but we specialize in what the name says: big, fluffy dogs. We have volunteers in several states in the South and New England who work to help homeless big fluffy dogs find a home to call their own. Big Fluffy Dog Rescue works to save Great Pyrenees, Saint Bernards, Newfoundlands and their mixes from euthanasia.

Come Meet Our Pets...

All of our dogs are in private foster homes. If a foster home is unavailable, our dogs are boarded. , Once your application to adopt is approved, we will have you go to the home or boarding facility to meet your dog.

Our Adoption Process...

Your first step to adopting with Big Fluffy Dog Rescue is to fill out an adoption application. You can find it here:

Once you have done that, an adoption coordinator will call you within 7 days. We have an interview process, vet check and home visit/property verification.

Adoptions are made on a best home basis. Our goal is to have the very best home for all our dogs. We carefully screen our dogs for temperament to ensure we are placing the right dog in the right home. Keeping our dogs in private foster homes allows us to tell you all about your dog. A dog in a kennel or shelter location does not have the benefit of family interaction and it is our goal to ensure that every dog is carefully screened.

Once you are approved to adopt your dog we will set up a meet and greet at the dogs foster home. All of our adoptable dogs are in the New England area, and we encourage meetings to ensure it is the right fit.

Before taking your dog home, we require you to sign an adoption contract and pay an adoption fee of $500 for dogs over 6 months old and $600 for puppies 6 months and younger. All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, have had all shots (age appropriate in the case of puppies) including bordetella (kennel cough), rabies, and the distemper/parvo series. All of our dogs have been heartworm screened and are heartworm negative, have had a clear fecal exam and are up to date on frontline and heartgaurd. This adoption fee covers any other medical treatments the dog may have had while in our care. All vet records travel with the dog. This adoption fee also covers all transport and health certificate costs we incur. We pay $150 of our adoption fee to the transport company we use and we pay $50 for the health certificate process required by law
