My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Pokie is a 9 year old neutered chocolate male lab who weighs 61 pounds. He is up to date on his shots and is good with kids 10 and up.

How can anyone possibly resist that punum?

Pokie is an exceptionally loving, sweet boy that adores all people and his toys. This silly boy has a toy on him at all times - so much so that we've had to teach him to check his toy at the door before he goes outside. Pokie has exceptional house manners. He is fully house trained and has full run of the house while we're out. He also loves going for rides in the car. Pokie is quiet and only lets out an occasional bark when there's someone at the door.

Pokie is partially blind due to complications from diabetes, but he does see shadows and gets around just fine. He loves running around the yard and playing ball (he listens for the bounce and is quite good at locating it). His diabetes is well controlled with two injections a day that are quite easy to do. Pokie's other passion is food and he equates getting his insulin with a biscuit, so he eagerly sits in anticipation of getting his injection and treat. He would do well as an only dog or have a laid back doggy companion. No kitties. Pokie has so much love to give his forever family. He is such a sweet boy.

UPDATE: Pokie is a wonderful companion. He loves to play with people and is getting along with the pack. Pokie adores everyone he meets and is very affectionate. Pokie loves to play ball (he tracks very well with his hearing). He is perfect in the house - he has never had an accident or gotten into anything he shouldn’t. His thyroid and diabetes management have remained very stable. He would probably do best with a quiet doggy sibling or on his own.

Earlier updates: Pokie LOVES people, toys and catching some rays. Pokie is mostly blind due to diabetes, but runs full speed around the house. He has excellent house manners and is a complete sweetheart. Pokie would do great as an only dog or with another super laid back companion. Pokie's diabetes is well controlled with 2 injections a day. He associates getting his shots with a treat so he literally begs for them.

Pokie vacationed with his foster family and was such a good boy. He got plenty of naps in and even got his paws wet in the ocean. He was so well behaved during the long car ride and has had excellent house manners. The extended family kept commenting how great he was all week. Pokie is 9 years old and mostly blind due to complications from diabetes, but he doesn’t let that hold him back one bit.

He adores just hanging out with his people and will come up for a lap snuggle now and again. Pokie is obsessed with his babies - he literally has one on him at all times. He likes to play tug and even fetch - he is quite good at listening to the ball bounce and figuring out where it went. Pokie has exceptional house manners and is great in the car. Pokie would be great as an only dog or with a quiet, chill companion.
