My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

SAMMY is a 5-year-old neutered male black lab. Sammy weighs 68 pounds and is up to date on shots. This dog is approved for homes with children ages 10 and up.

DESCRIPTION Sammy is a very likable, adaptable fellow; this five year old was a favorite at the shelter because of his relaxed, compliant demeanor and then at the vet for the same reasons. He is happy and affectionate. He had the same transporter for 2 legs of his journey, a total of close to four hours and she said he was absolutely perfect in the car He needs some brushing up on the leash, but is easy and obedient. Sammy is good with other dogs.

Applicants must meet the following requirements:
Setting: Rural, Suburban
Dwelling: Single Family Home Townhouse
Fence: Physical fence or no fence. Given his prey drive an electric fence may not be a good match

UPDATE: Sammy is house trained and he has great house manners. He loves to go for walks but otherwise he is a low energy guy. I often finding him snoozing on my bed. He entertains himself by chewing on antlers or playing with stuffed animals. He likes to play fetch and he adores squeaky toys. Sammy likes squirrels and birds (too much) and he will pull on leash when he sees them. Oh, he has some allergies. He needs a special food and a daily pill. Easy peasy!

Update: Sammy is such a charming guy! He met some new people and dogs this week and made a good impression on everyone. He loves chew toys, stuffed animals, and when you throw the ball a few times. He jumps with joy at walk time and meal time. He adores snuggling up with his humans at bed time. Now that he is feeling better he walks quickly and helps you keep a good pace. He is very quiet despite the noisy neighbors. He can be placed in a townhome environment.

Update: Sammy had a check up this week. The vet reported that his skin is improving but it is unclear if his fur will grow back. His ears were treated and he may have some hearing loss. Given the special food and restricted diet seems to be helping, we will continue that. He also takes a medication to help with itching and has a lotion for his skin that needs to be applied twice a week. The food is about $100 a bag and the other meds are around $50 a month.

Update: Sammy is a sweet, quiet, and affectionate dog. He gives gentle kisses and wags his tail for you. He enjoys chewing on antlers and squeaky toys. He has perfect house manners and he doesn't need to be crated when his human goes to work. He was very pleased to be invited onto his foster mom's bed. He sleeps soundly nestled up to her. When it is time for his medicated baths, he hops right into the tub when asked (pretty impressive, huh!) Sammy knows sit and he will give you his paw as a bonus. He loves to go for walks and will be sure you keep a good pace. He will occasionally get distracted by the smell of bunnies and pull to go faster! Sammy has some allergies and is missing some of his fur.

Update: Sammy Saturday! Sammy loves walks and will bounce with delight when you take out your jacket. He keeps a good pace on leash only pulling when he smells a critter. He seems disinterested in other dogs, walking right by the neighbor's Lab Rescue dog. Sammy is very calm in the house. He will chew on an antler, snooze on his dog bed, squeak a squeaky toy, or inspect the toy basket for something new. His new favorite spot is under his foster human's desk at her feet! He had a human visitor and he was a little hesitant about saying hello. He wagged his tail and said hello when given a little time. Sammy was delighted with the invitation to join his foster human on the bed and snuggled in for the night. He is a sound sleeper and is still until a human wakes him up. The medicated baths and oral medications are working wonders and he feels better.

Update: Sammy has great house manners, he is calm, and he is affectionate. He walks well on leash and likes to keep a good pace. He will pull a bit when he smells a critter. He loves antlers and squeaky toys. He doesn't mind the construction next door and he has only barked when he hears his humans arrive home. He is being listed as no cats as he has quite a bit of interest in small critters when outdoors.
