My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Wizard is a sweet yet shy 3.5 year old who was originally homed with her sister. They were unable to get along, so now she needs a new forever home. She is very goofy and plays silly games with her squeaky toys. She loves cuddling, and will sleep curled up with you for hours. She is great on and off leash, and loves going for walks in the woods. She is a loyal dog and will 'keep the pack together' on off-leash walks rather than chasing squirrels. She is a very fast runner and loves to show off her agility skills. Parties, large groups and busy events make her nervous, though she loves people that she meets in a calmer setting. She does not like children. She would do best in a calm household with gentle training and encouragement from a strong leader, who she will reward with all her love and cuddles! She definitely needs a home with no children, and ideally no other dogs. She's obviously currently living with her sister, so she could live with another dog with the right match/introduction, but she would probably be happiest solo. An experienced owner would be ideal, she could benefit greatly from some behavioral training and she responds well to strong leadership. We are starting her on Fluoxitine, which should help with some of her anxiety, but a generally quiet household would be best. It's very obvious when she is getting nervous or uncomfortable if you know her or are familiar with dog body language, and that's when you need to take her to a calm space where she can be alone. She doesn't need a ton of exercise. She would be fine without a fenced in yard, she is very good at coming back. If you are interested in Wizard, please fill out an application today!

****Her adoption fee is $295.****

The Animal Rescue Project (www.animalrescueproject.org) is committed to the best possible veterinary care for the pets it rescues and it is looking for adopters who will be similarly committed.

All dogs and puppies are given a general check-up when they enter our program. They receive medication to remove any intestinal parasites (worms), fleas, and ticks they may have. Dogs greater than six months of age are checked for heartworm. If heartworm positive, the Animal Rescue Project treats the disease. Dogs and pups receive all age-appropriate vaccinations for distemper, and dogs greater than four months of age are also vaccinated for rabies, in compliance with State of Michigan laws.

Most dogs and older puppies are spayed or neutered before adoption. In the case of puppies not old enough to be safely sterilized, a $25 deposit is required at the time of adoption and is refunded to the adopter with proof of sterilization.

The Animal Rescue Project requires every adopter to establish an active relationship with a veterinarian no later than 10 days after adoption. Adopters will receive a plan for routine veterinary care at the time of adoption and are expected to work with their vet to complete the plan.
