Additional info: Baxter went into the shelter as a stray. He was very nervous at first and seemed a little unsure of new people. He had bitten people and we knew he needed a very experienced owner in a child-free environment. But he has been at our boarding facility for a while now so he has settled down quite a lot. He does have an injured front leg that he couldn't use at all and we think that was contributing to his moodiness and snappiness as he was in pain. He received medical treatment and is now no longer in pain. He doesn't use his front leg the way that other dogs do and it may never be fully functional but at least he's not in pain and he can get around just fine. He had to walk on three legs for so long he kind of got used to it.

Even with his bum leg he is an escape artist and can climb fences and doggy gates like a pro. Baxter is treat motivated and loves his walks, adores other dogs and is a big time cuddler and lap hog. He loves to play, loves his toys and playing tug of war. He is apprehensive about being picked up. Baxter can be the sweetest most loving dog but then something may trigger him and he can get feisty and nippy. He has had a rough start to life and we believe that with the right environment and experienced owner he can settle down and make a wonderful companion. The key is that he has to be given time and space to be comfortable with someone. We still want an experienced, patient owner who will allow him the personal space to settle into a new environment on his own terms.
