My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

If you are looking for a devoted and loving companion, Petey is your boy! He is the perfect easy lap dog who is eager to please. He is approximately four years old, weighs 19 lbs., has a soft brindle coat, perky ears, and an adorable curly tail! Petey used to belong to a homeless man who loved him dearly but could no longer care for him and surrendered him to the shelter. When he came to his foster home, we had no idea what breed(s) Petey is and we were so curious to find out that we ordered a DNA test for him. As it turns out, Petey is 25% min pin, 25% Chihuahua, and 50% mixed breed (from the terrier, hound, and sporting groups). Whatever his mix of breeds is, Petey is 100% cute!
Petey is a low-medium energy boy. He doesn’t run around or play much but he enjoys chewing on cow hooves, exploring his yard, and taking leisurely walks around the neighborhood. He also enjoys riding in the car. One of his favorite things to do is to nap in a soft pile of laundry. He often sleeps on his back with his feet in the air! He will happily sleep on the couch or bed next to us. He loves to nap in the sun on our deck or in the backyard. Although he may go off by himself for a nap, he generally prefers being close to people. Petey has a happy, friendly personality and enjoys meeting new people, including older children. However, he may not be suitable for a home that includes young children, becausenit may be too overwhelming for him.
Petey is being fostered in a home with several other dogs and he gets along with them well. He would probably be just fine with a mellow and submissive canine companion or he would adore being the one and only dog in the household. Petey was tested with cats while at the shelter and it was determined that he would do best in a household that does not include cats. His foster family generally has someone at home all day but when no one is at home he has been allowed the run of the house and he has done fine.
Petey suffered from seizures but since becoming a FOR dog, he has been examined by a veterinarian and is now on daily medication that has brought his seizures totally under control. His adopter must realize that Petey will need to take this medication for the rest of his life. Fill out an application for this sweet boy here: http://forrescue.net/dog-application/ and his foster mom will be in touch asap! He is located in Huntsville, AL, but he is available for adoption in your area. He is neutered, microchipped, dewormed, tested negative and current on preventatives, as well as fully vaccinated.
