My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

We have a 6 year old standard grey female chinchilla that is looking for her new home. She came to NWI a bit ago, and she was born in 2010. She is what is called a culled breeder – a large rancher used her for breeding, and was going to put her down when she stopped breeding, but instead, we picked her up (along with quite a few other females) and now she’s ready to go to her new home!

This girl’s color is called standard grey, which is the classic color in chinchillas – a greyish color over her back, with a white belly.

She’s a sweet girl. Likes to explore. She’s super sweet when you hold her. She sits pretty nicely in your arms to be petted… though she does have a curious streak about her and she's just adorable. She has the cutest face… but she doesn’t seem to want us to get a good picture of it, but we promise she’s adorable! While she is a fur chewer, she seems to have slowed down her chewing while she’s been with us, so maybe with the right family, this could stop, or continue at its slower pace. She does very well with being handled and petted, and is a super sweet girl. She’d be good for someone who wants to handle her a good amount as she is pretty chill with being handled. However, don’t sell her short, she is curious as well and would likely enjoy playtime. Because she fur chews, we wouldn’t recommend a super busy household with little kids… she would likely to better in a quieter household with teenagers and older. Doesn’t bite.

This chinchilla is currently living alone, and we do not know if she gets along with other chinchillas. If you are curious as to whether she might get along with your, or one of our, chinchillas, let us know and we’ll see what we can do.

This chinchilla would make a great “first chinchilla” for someone who’s never had chinchillas before.

This chinchilla will come with some food to start you out (2 pounds of Tradition pellets), a goodie bags of chews/treats, and a printed out version of our care packet. She will also come with a lifetime of help and support, should you ever need it. If more supplies are needed, we also sell a variety of chinchilla supplies, from cages to hidey houses to hammocks and everything in between.

Regardless of past chinchilla experience, all potential homes will be asked to read our chinchilla care packet and fill out our adoption application/chinchilla questionnaire. If you are unwilling to do this, please do not waste our time or yours. No chinchilla will go to a new home without an adoption application being filled out - no exceptions.

This chinchilla is located in Hammond, Indiana (zip code 46324). We can ship chinchillas from Chicago O’Hare, to a major airport near you. Inquire if interested.

The adoption fee for this standard grey female chinchilla is $75
