Facts about Tashi

  • Breed: Quarterhorse/Thoroughbred Mix
  • Color: Chestnut/Sorrel
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Unknown
  • Sex: Female
  • ID#: 11168677

Tashi is a beautiful Appendix mare who came to Safe Harbor after a two year abandonment at a boarding facility.  During this time period Tashi did not receive routine hoof care or grain, so on her arrival she was underweight and quite sore on her feet with white line and abcesses.  She was however well mannered--if not a little pushy.

We have been informed by Tashi's former owner that she was hunter trained in her earlier life.  Once at an ideal weight we intend to begin retraining, but with Tashi's height, energy, and conformation, she is a great prospect for an amateur looking towards entering the show ring.  Tashi is an unregistered (or we do not have her registration at least) Appendix.  We recommend front shoes for her for soundness and comfort.  Her adoption fee is $500.

About Her Name: Tashi's name comes from The Color Purple, the Pulitzer Price winning novel by Alice Walker.  Tashi is a girl in the Olinka village. Tashi is torn between her Olinka culture and the more modern world that Nettie and Olivia introduce to her. After years with Nettie and Olivia, Catherine realizes that education is important and that she is free to change her views once her husband is dead. Not officially educated, Tashi learns from Olivia but succumbs to tribal ceremonies as a method of holdng to her heritage.

Safe Harbor Sanctuary is a 501(c)3 non profit rescue based in Middle Tennessee. Please visit our website for our adoption application, and to read more about us (including our adoption area) on our About Adopting FAQ. www.safeharborsanctuary.org.

About Safe Harbor Equine and Livestock Sanctuary

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a dedicated team or horsemen (and horsewomen) who are seeking to fill the void for those horses that have no alternatives. Our Mission is as follows:

1) To be first responders and a resource to horses and livestock in cases of abuse and neglect. To provide those animals a safe harbor sanctuary where they will be treated with diginity and love as they prepare for new lifelong home.

2) To serve at risk and medically fragile children, as well as recovering veterans through structured equine experience opportunities.

3) To become a resource to low income families, unable to continue to care for their equine and livestock animals; providing food assistance when possible, or offering rescue rehoming services when possible.
