Bernard's Story...

Meet Gorgeous Bernard!  Bernard was brought to the shelter by a good samaritan who rescued him from kids who were throwing rocks at him and painting his head (hence the red in the photos). We had to rescue this boy when we saw his photos, and we are so happy we did! Bernard is a one year old 10 pound long legged Chihuahua mix who gets along great with cats and other dogs. He loves to play with his foster dog sister!  Bernard is a love bug who would do great with another dog his size.  He likes older kids and all the grown-ups he meets.  He is house trained and is learning to walk on a leash. Bernard has a great personality and fabulous ears and markings.  Ready to meet this cutie? He's ready to meet you!

Every Underdog has been spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, flea/tick treated, de-wormed, and received rabies, bordetella and distemper/parvo vaccines. All dogs have had a recent visit to the vet as well.

Why Adoption is a Great Option

Bernard, a Portland Chihuahua dog was adopted! Here's how you can benefit by looking at adoption as an option to buying a Chihuahua for sale in Portland, or seeking a Chihuahua dog from a breeder in Portland.

  1. Rescues and shelter volunteers in Portland already know the personality and tendencies of their pets. This means they can match you with the right pet. That will makes it much easier transition to owning a pet for yourself and your new pet.
  2. On average adoption fees are much less than you'd pay a Portland breeder, or pet store. Plus most often rescue pets have already been to the veterinarian for a check-up, had a round of vaccinations, and are spayed or neutered. That is a lot of savings!
  3. You will become a hero, and give a needy dog or cat a loving home. In fact, there are even Chihuahua breeders who help with Chihuahua rescue. One puppy or kitten adopted in Portland paves the way for another one to be saved.
