From the Foster:

Sadly, Cannon is clearly a dog that came from some kind of rough situation. He doesn't seem to have ever lived in a real home- he didn't know how to go down stairs, doesn't know 'sit', and I had to teach him how to play with a toy! Despite this he LOVES people. He loves a belly rub and a snuggle and is extremely responsive- he doesn't know his name, but he comes to me every time I talk to him. Oddly, he does seem to be housetrained (i keep a good schedule and kenneled when gone, but he has done great, no accidents). I don't have cats, so don't know how he is with them. He pretty much ignores my other two dogs, so I think he would be wonderful as an only dog- he is totally fine with dogs and would be fine with another dog, but he wouldn't, so far at least, be a great playmate for a puppy.
He walks great on a leash, no pulling at all! In general he is a pretty mellow, low energy dog. He is a terrier and does bark, though my terrier barks terribly and 'starts it' most of the time. Cannon does bark when people come to the door.
He is, unfortunately, starting to do some resource guarding. Primarily of bones, but after I taught him how to play with the toy, then he started guarding it too. I think he's have very little good in his life and is protecting what he has (though that's pure speculation, who knows...). I am going to start training him to reduce this tendency, so feel free to contact me for an update/questions. Given this though, I would definitely say he needs to go to a family with older/respectful kids (mine are 6 and 9 and doing great with him).
Cannon seems like a very smart and trainable dog, he has figured a lot out in just 3 days. He still has no manners, and is pretty 'jumpy' but I've already seen a reduction in it. With some formal training (he'd do great with a clicker, i think) he would be a really wonderful dog.
