Hello, my name is Champ! I am an 8-month-old, neutered, brown boxer and Great Pyreneese mix. I came to the shelter on March 12th because my previous owner''s house burned down. Please note that I am a very large dog and still growing, so I would not be suitable for a home with young children simply based on my size and energy level. I am a very active dog, so my new family should be willing to work with me to help me reach my full potential! My adoption fee includes training classes that my new owners and I will attend here at the shelter after adoption, in order to help us build a close bond. If you have any other doggie friends be sure to ask a staff member of how to properly introduce us!

I have been medically and behaviorally evaluated, altered, microchipped, and am up to date on all my age appropriate vaccinations.

Adoption Package includes:
- Mandatory Obedience Training Classes
- Age appropriate vaccines UP TO THE TIME OF ADOPTION. As many vaccines are given in a series or require that an animal be of a certain age, this means further vaccines MAY BE REQUIRED AT THE ADOPTERS EXPENSE.
- Deworming and/or fecal exam, Flea Treatment application
- AVID Microchip (form of permanent identification)
- 1 year City of PGH Dog License (for City residents)
- Spay/Neuter Surgery
- LIFETIME OF LOVE!!!!

About Western Pennsylvania Humane Society - Northside

About Our Shelter...

Open Door InformationThere are thousands of animals who are given up every year. Sometimes people lose their jobs and can no longer afford to take care of their pets or have to move and cannot take their pets with them. Other times people experience life-changing events, such as a divorce or new baby, and have to surrender their furry friends. As more and more shelters become “limited access,” people have no other choice than to surrender their pets to an open-door shelter, who will never turn away a pet in need.

Because of the stigma that open-door shelters have, many people choose to make donations to limited access shelters, when, in-fact, it’s the open-door shelters who need the money the most. The Western PA Humane Society helps over 13,000 animals each and every year—which is a lot of mouths to feed and medications to administer. Please consider watching our short video and supporting our animals. Thank you

Our Adoption Process...

Everything we do is for the best interests of our animals in our care. Our adoption process is aimed at matching you, your family and your current pets with our animals for adoption.

An adoption counselor (or volunteer) will introduce you to our animals in a private meeting room. We will share information about the animal's history and needs, behavior assessment and any volunteer / staff comments.

When you find the right pet for you and your family, the adoption counselor will assist you in completing the proper paperwork. This process includes signing an adoption contract, reviewing medical history (provided by WPHS) and providing proper pet care information. This process takes approximately 30 minutes to complete.

What you will need in order to adopt:

A valid PA state ID with your current address.
If you rent, a copy of the lease stating they permit pets at the residence. Your landlord’s name and phone number should be listed on the lease.
All members of the household should meet the animal before adopting.
If you are interested in adopting a dog and have other dog(s) living in your household, it is required that all dogs meet each other at the shelter.
Certain animals require a completed application and a pre-adoption home visit.
Adoption fee is accepted in cash or credit/debit card. Checks, American Express and Discover are not accepted as payment.
PLEASE NOTE: We are not able to hold or accept a deposit for animals.
