About Oakdale Dog Shelter of Louisiana

About Our Shelter...

We are a group of volunteers that love dogs and see the amount of strays that need homes. Our goal is to spay/neuter to prevent more unwanted dogs roaming the streets

Come Meet Our Pets...

During the week we are open by appointment only. Saturdays we are open 10-2 for the public. You can also reach us by calling 318-306-8117 and leave us a message.

Our Adoption Process...

The adoption fees - Male dog will be $100 and that will include the following: physical exam, 7 n 1 shot + rabies, Fecal exam, and neuter. Females will be $100 and include the same. Adopter will be responsible for monthly heartworm preventative and flea and tick medicine. If you adopt a puppy that is too young to be spayed or neutered, you will still pay the full amount and when the puppy is old enough to be spayed or neutered, you may take them to the Oakdale Animal Clinic. Your fee will already be paid. If you do not have your dog spayed or neutered prior to the deadline, you could face a fine and have to relinquish the dog back to the shelter with no refund. Our goal is to help combat overpopulation and the only way to do that is through spay and neuter. Thank you for your support.

Adoption process - If a dog is old enough to be spayed or neutered, the adopter pays the adoption fee which is taken directly to Oakdale Animal Clinic to pay for the vetting. A volunteer of the shelter will take the dog to the clinic on a Monday - Friday to be spayed or neutered and to receive their shots and exam. You will then be able to pick up the dog the following day after 9 am. Under no circumstances will an adopter be allowed to take a dog home that is of age to be spayed or neutered prior to being spayed or neutered! You will be responsible for making sure to keep the sutures dry and try to keep the dog from licking it. In 10 days, you can take the dog back to the clinic to have the stitches removed at no cost.
