My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Greta came to the shelter in December, a terrified kitten of about 9 months of age. At the time of her arrival we were still very full with adult cats and some kittens, so our progress with her socializing was a bit delayed. Since then, we have been working to gain her trust, slowly, over the months, not pushing her too much. We could tell her mistrust of us was based in her apprehension over finding herself living in a cage in a strange environment, because while she hissed at us and withdrew in her cage when we approached her, she was also very curious about the volunteers and other cats, enjoyed playing with toys, and wasn’t too above it all to take some chicken from our hands. We are now able to handle her and get her out of her cage to socialize with the other cats, who she really finds comfort with. She is still frightened of the cat room floor, but is happy to sit in a cozy on top of the cages, cuddled up with other cats. We have just begun to hold her in our arms, to pet her and kiss her, and assure her that we mean only the best for her. Greta has so much promise, and we will continue to work on gaining her full trust, but if there is a home out there for her with an adopter who has experience socializing cats like Greta, we think she will progress far more quickly in a home. While she will be fine in a home with other cats, it’s probably best if the home has no dogs or small children.

Greta is box-trained, spayed, current on vaccinations, and tested negative for FIV and feline leukemia. Adoption fee for adult cats is $50 (cash or check only, please).
