About BOE: Hi new friends. My name is BOE and I am a 4 year old long haired dachshund. If you have never owned a dachshund I need to stop you right here and direct you to go investigate the breed and specifically the breed specific needs and potential health issues especially as it pertains to IVDD...again if you have never heard of this definitely go check it out because us short legged, long back doggies need owners who understand the best way to care for us (minimize stairs, use ramps instead of high impact jumping, etc etc) one of the most important things especially in my case is diet. It is not good for any dog to be overweight but for a low rider long backed dog like me....it's TERRIBLE. Therefore I need an owner who is committed to not only getting all this weight off me with diet and exercise....but who will continue the rest of my life to keep me healthy and at a safe weight to protect my little legs and my spine! Ok so now that you researched let's talk about me! I love people!! I am a snuggly lovey boy with all humans. I would be great in a laid back home,,,,a family that appreciates the beauty of laying around and giving out belly rubs and tossing in some afternoon walks as well/ I am fine with other dogs OUTSIDE of my home, however I have proven to be a bit "testy" with other dogs that come into my territory. I get along with other dogs but don't like when they come storming into my home. So, the girls here have decided that a home with no other dogs would be best for all involved. So if you have another dog please be sure to check out all the other pet-friendly dogs in our rescue!! I am laid back so again walking daily with a harness will be great for my weight and to keep me strong and healthy. As for diet I need to lose some weight!! I am currently a bit overweight at 26 pounds. You see my owner was older and sadly she passed away and it's clear i was terribly over fed! Now as for my potty...I do know where to go but if you do not pay attention to me and I need to go I will have an accident so it's important you take me out on a regular structured schedule and allow for accidents while I get used to your schedule, your house, your door etc. I have been through a lot first losing my mom then my home then ending up at the pound so only patient people need to apply. I can tell you your patience will be rewarded with love and snuggles from me. I am a very good passenger so far too. My foster mom does use a crate too for prevention of potty at night and when she leaves. I protest a minute or so but then lay down and chill out! I am just a happy sweet loving guy who needs an owner dedicated to adhering to the restrictions necessary to keep a dachshund healthy and safe. And ohhhh don't forget we are not a cheap breed....between our regular health checks , need to be professionally groomed every 6 to 8 weeks, a good diet....etc etc. So please keep this in mind. I would also recommend checking out petfinder pet insurance pet insurance as the offer is great at the time of adoption. If you have breed experience or have researched the breed, if you understand the best way to care for a breed with little legs and a long spine and are dedicated to taking my weight off and keeping it off through diet and exercise measures throughout my life....go fill out an application at www.cthar.org. be sure to indicate on the application your experience and/or your understanding of your research on my breed.xoxo BOE
