Facts about Tanner

  • Breed: Plott Hound/Labrador Retriever Mix
  • Color: Brindle - With White
  • Age: Adult
  • Size: Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
  • Sex: Male
Tanner was rescued from a high kill rural shelter on what was deemed his last day. The facility was closing for renovations and Tanner couldn't stay there any longer. Their solution was his termination. Our solution was to make room for him. He ended up being heartworm positive, but has finished with those treatments. Tanner is great with other dogs who are smaller than he is and he loves small puppies. He is protective of his pack and is working on his manners. He can be kind of scary to unfamiliar people but once you have his trust, he will roll over for belly rubs and play time. He hopes for an active family, but is content laying around watching you. He is curious about cats, but no longer barks at them, and has not chased any. Tanner is a big brindle baby at 75 lbs and is a good eater! He came to us at only 55 lbs. He really is as sweet as can be and has the most soulful eyes when he watches you. His medical expenses have cost us a pretty penny to include heartworm treatment, neutering, vaccines, ear mite treatment and deworming, but his adoption fee is $200 so we can rescue another!

About Windy Ridge Rescue

About Our Rescue Group...

We are a group of people dedicated to saving animals in our community from being euthanized in shelters, living as strays, or ending up in abusive situations. We pool our resources and connections together with donations from our supporters to relocate the unwanted to areas of our great country where their fates are full of love and admiration and families of their own. We do adopt locally, although without a facility, we rely on fosters and our fosters appreciate knowing exactly when their guests will be leaving.

We also assist families and the community with Trap, Neuter, Return efforts and team up with pet parents and rescue partners whenever it makes sense to save and help more animals in need. We are always looking for short term fosters and drivers and of course, donors!

Come Meet Our Pets...

Meet and greets are by appointment only. Events are scheduled in the Columbia, Sumter, Camden. Lugoff, Elgin areas of SC.

Our Adoption Process...

Potential adopters complete an adoption application and all animals in the household attend a meet & greet once vet references and a home visit is complete. Fees are negotiable, but a non-refundable donation is required. Follow ups and access to a dog behaviorist/trainer is encouraged. A finalized adoption contract is required. Our rescue is an all volunteer organization and many of our volunteers are employed full time. Please be patient for someone to contact you or return your call. Thank you.
