ASTRO was saved from Texas where most dogs in the kill shelters have 3 days to be saved before they are killed. ASTRO is neutered, rabies, core vaccines, de-wormed, heart-worm and tick disease (SNAP 4DX) tested negative and micro-chipped. He has been estimated date of birth of 1 February 2015 and weighs around 35 pounds.

‚ÄčASTRO was saved with his brother BENSON and both boys are so much fun. ASTRO is very puppy-like in his behaviour, he is so very happy, he loves to play with toys and chase around wrestling and playing with his brother. He is great with other dogs and has been around small 5 pound dogs up to 95 pound dogs and gets on great with all of them.

ASTRO uses the dog door to go out and do his business. He is a happy confident boy, so much life, energy and love to give. We do not have cats in the rescue so are unable to comment on how he would be around them.

We would love to adopt both ASTRO and BENSON together as they clearly enjoy each other's company a lot, however, we will adopt them out individually to a family that can give them what they need.

ASTRO would suit a relatively active fun family that has the time to work with him on her obedience and manners, who would take him on adventures and road trips and let him explore the sights, sounds and smells the world has to offer. He would benefit from a family that has the time to work with him on basic and advanced obedience training. By working together both ASTRO and his humans can learn each others body language and personality, expectations and boundaries can be set and with self-training a stronger bond formed.

We currently feed SPORTMIX Wholesomes Chicken Meal & Rice Formula, a 4* (a per www.dogfoodadvisor.com) GRAIN FREE food along with pro-bioitics and immune support supplements listed on the available dogs page!

ASTRO is available for adoption through Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue for an adoption fee of US $500

This fee is not negotiable and is used to cover the rescue costs of pulling, vetting, health certificate, transport from Texas to Maine, monthly preventatives, supplements, food and anything else that is needed.

If you feel that you have the heart and home to give this precious soul a wonderful life, please go to our website, under the APPLICATION tab, complete, then submit the APPLICATION. Our process takes around 2-4 days, and ensuring your references are aware that we will be calling, could speed up the process. Once you have been approved, we discuss any questions in regards to the dog you are wanting to adopt, then you complete and submit the contract, make payment and then we can work out the pick up / transport arrangements.

Please do NOT submit an application if you are not looking to take home a new best friend within the next few weeks.

ASTRO is located at the rescue in Sebec, Maine. We post in various states along the east coast and Canada where we have had lots of successful adoptions to enable more exposure for these beautiful saved souls. Families will need to be prepared to travel to the rescue to meet and take home their new best friend. There is a local hotel in Dover-Foxcroft that is pet-friendly (approx 6 miles) and several in Bangor (approx 45 miles). There are also lots of wonderful camp-sites for the more adventurous families and what a great way to get to know your new best friend. If there are options to arrange transport, we will work with you to make it happen.

About Give a Dog a Home, German Shepherd Dog Rescue-NY

About Our Rescue Group...

Founded by Jenny an English woman who found her way to Texas on 14th February 2011 in San Antonio, Texas we saved dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas.

In July 2015, Jenny relocated herself and the rescue to the beautiful state of Maine, it's weather and people much like that of her home in Northern England.

We still save dogs from the high kill shelters in Texas where dogs have just 3 days to be saved. We vet them, they have veterinary examination and are issued with health certificates and then transported to the rescue in Sebec, Maine.
