My story

Here's what the humans have to say about me:

Ivy is a 2 year old female Pointer mix. Ivy came from a farming community where she was neglected and running loose scavenging for food. In the process she became pregnant, had 8 puppies at which time her owner surrendered her to the local pound. She came to us with her 8 puppies, emaciated, full of worms and almost starved to death weighing only 41 pounds. Ivy and her puppies went into a foster home and Ivy stayed behind after the puppies left for their new homes to get healthy and gain weight. Ivy is a gentle and affectionate girl and loves attention, but can also be quiet and just enjoy being with others. She gets along well with other dogs (after a proper introduction) and is not reactive to cats unless they run (which activates a chase reflex in any dog). When she arrived she was not housebroken at all, has learned very quickly but will probably need a period of adjustment in a new environment. She is is very food motivated and now weighs 55 pounds. She loves her evening walk and is eager to please. Like any hunting dog is very reactive to squirrels and rabbits and will jump a fence to chase one, but once she figures out her food is coming on a regular basis, she is prone to not want to go anywhere except to adore her family.
