Here's what the humans have to say about me:
Would you like to meet the coolest dog in the world??? Well, just come on out to Plano and meet me! Oh, my gosh – where are my manners?!? Let me introduce myself. My name is Briggs. I am 2 years old American Staffordshire mix. I have the coolest fur – I have brindle markings. I was found as a stray by a really nice guy. I was really lucky this man found me because he was a son of a Veterinarian. He brought me to his Dad’s office versus the (kill) shelter because I had no tags or collars. Nobody knew where my owners were. So I stayed there for a while until a Rescue group could help me with a foster home. While I was there they took good care of me and they had me take a test for my heart. My test came back positive for heart worm (more on that below) but I don’t let that bother me. In fact, nothing bothers me – not this cool dog! See, that’s why I am the coolest dog in the world. Just ask my foster Mom and the people who meet me. I like being around people and I'm really good with other dogs and cats. I love just hanging out by you and if you let me, I’ll lay by your feet. I walk really well on my leash, I am not food aggressive and I’m house trained. I go into my crate during the work day even though I don't need it. I’m a perfect size dog – I weigh about 50 lbs. My fur is the softest ever that you’ll just want to pet me and I really like to be petted. I’ll make you laugh too when you see me lounge around. See, I lounge around like a frog … my back legs get splayed out. I hope one day I will have a forever home and a family that will love me. That I won’t become a stray again. Would you like to meet me? Come and meet the coolest dog ever? All you have to do is call my foster Mom and she’ll arrange us to have a play date. Thanks, Briggs.
Briggs is located in our foster home in Plano. Please visit our website at www.illinoisanimalrescue.org to view our adoption process and our adoption fees.
Briggs heart worm treatment is part of his adoption fee. First, heart worm is NOT contagious to other dogs. The only way a dog can catch heart worm is by an infected mosquito & if they are not under heart worm prevention; which Briggs was not. There are 4 stages/courses of heart worm treatment. 1st: 28 days of anti-biotics; 2nd - heart worm prevention medication. 3rd: (30 days later) 1st injection of Imiticide done by our vets. 4th/last: (30 days later) two consecutive days of Imiticide and treatment is done.
Briggs will need to be on restricted activity until he gets cleared by the Vet – about 6 months from start to completion. Any questions please email our Foster Coordinator at adogslife02@yahoo.com. Please do not let heart worm stop you from adopting this AWESOME boy. NOTE: Briggs has begun the 1st stage/course.
